Last Season Agents Fees

That does seem quite a lot considering the signings we made. Hobbs and Wellens being the main ones. Anyone know if you have to pay them for loans? Sorry i know nothing about this ;)

Scary stuff, only the three relegated teams spent more than us.

Notts County spent £246k out of a total of £366k for the whole of League 2!

£655k on agents, what a waste. Players don't NEED them involved in deals,

Unfortunately they do. Why do you think every player has one

There's a lot more than just signing a piece of paper.

There are a select few who are independent or have family members who represent them but their in the minority.

"In the Championship there were 778 (1,227) player transactions, 205 (142) involved the use of agents"

Direct quote from that report.

Don't ask me about the weird figures, I just coped it directly.

Foxes' agent fees unveiled

Leicester paid out the fifth highest figure for agent fees during last season, according to the Football League.

The Foxes dished out a grand total of £655,710 on the middle men last year, putting them well up there with the highest-spenders of the 72 league clubs.

Only four clubs - Newcastle, Middlesbrough, Nottingham Forest and West Bromwich Albion - paid out more for agent fees over the course of the season.

The figure represents a significant increase from the £121,000 paid out to agents by the Foxes in the 2008/09 campaign.

Over £10 million was commited to agents in the Championship last season, almost five times higher than that paid by clubs in League One and Two.

Football League chairman Greg Clarke has revealed his concern over the fees, saying:

'Given the current economic climate, it is worrying to the see such a significant amount leaking from the game.

'This year's figures demonstrate a considerable increase on those of last season and it is essential that clubs work to reduce this liability over the coming campaign.'

Interestingly Blackpool paid out only £40,000 to agents in their victorious promotion season, putting them well among the modest spenders in the Football League.

What? Negotions over wages & bonuses - players should be more than capable of doing that themselves, ironing out sponsorship/promotional deals with businesses (e.g. Beckham, henry - gillette etc.) again hardly something a player couldn't do for themselves.

Agents are an outdated part of football who drive up spending within football without contributing anything in return and can destroy the careers of youngsters set to have a good future by forcing through moves which are no good for the players development but brilliant for the agent and in paticular his/her wallet.
