Guest ttfn Posted 15 September 2010 Posted 15 September 2010 Well I have to say I feel a bit of a tit following my weekend comments. I thought we were ok to good in the first half and very good in the second period. The 10 minutes after we scored the first were sensational, I've never seen us so on top. Andy King is turning into a central midfielder of real quality. Those finishes were out of this world; no other player at the club would have scored that second one. As others have said, let's hope we can keep hold of him. Either Sousa was mental for leaving him out against Reading or it gave him the kick up the backside I guess he needed, who knows. As has been said by others, Dyer was very good (poor finishing though). He seems to have developed some positional discipline, whether it be on the left or right wing. There was far less of the aimless wandering which characterised many of last season's performances. Neilson is a totally different player. I actually can't believe that it's the same person. Even his crossing was excellent yesterday, and he played a lovely reverse pass to Wellens in the build up to the second. The most pleasing thing of all is that we played 'common sense' football. We passed it around nicely but also used Howard at times, mixing it up. This approach injected the urgency which had been missing against both Palace and Middlesbrough (the two previous games I've seen this season). I think Finnegan must have been watching a different game if he thought Howard wasn't of any use yesterday (I know he didn't say he played poorly, just that he didn't fit in). There were plenty of chipped (and occasionally long) balls to Howard, and he frequently directed his flick ons to the onrushing Dyer, who got a couple of opportunities in this manner. That said, I agree with the posters who'd like to see Fryatt start there, with Howard to use his height/strength as an impact sub. I still have my reservations about Sousa, but yesterday was an excellent performance and result. It is critical that people don't go over the top after one win - we are still 20th after all, but that was a far more intelligent performance than we have shown on other occasions this season. Cardiff simply weren't in the game, but we did only win by one goal. Also, Hobbs continues to disappoint this season. He's still a useful member of the team, but he's struggling to regain the imperious form of the back end of last season.
Koke Posted 15 September 2010 Posted 15 September 2010 Personally think Waghorn is very good at holding the ball up and leading the line, and is a better finisher. Put him in the centre, and put Gallagher out wide as he will provide with much extra creativity, and have a Gallagher-Waghorn-Dyer front line. I <3 Howard but I think we are better off with Gallagher in the side. Or even Fryatt.
Rich Fox Posted 15 September 2010 Posted 15 September 2010 Great football last night we out classed Cardiff and that move with 30 or so passes was awesome. We did well to win as we were very unlucky last night going behind to a complete fluke, I cannot believe Cardiff fans coming on here saying it was a screamer. Its all very well Cardiff fans saying what they would have done to us if they had no injuries, we also have key players injured ie Tunchev. With more luck Cardiff would have got a proper spanking.
BlueAndWhiteArmy1 Posted 15 September 2010 Posted 15 September 2010 Fair play, a well deserved win for you lot. I thought the first half was pretty even, and we looked the better side after Naylors screamer (cue the cries of 'fluke') and half time came at a bad time for us. Second half we were outplayed and out-witted. Burke was ineffective, Whitts was anonymous. Gavin Rae shouldnt be allowed 90 seconds nevermind 90 minutes. Keogh can't play as a lone striker. Two good goals from King, best player on the park by a mile. But anyone who thinks you would have got 3 points if even 2 of our 5 players missing had played is seriously deluded. 4 of those 5 players are our best players. Drinkwater will be one for the future, Olofinjana is a beast and everytime ive watched him its clear he's too good for this division. Head and shoulders above anyone else in midfield. Then we have Bellamy, Bothroyd and Chopra who would've run your team ragged last night. Better team in the first half? Did you even have one shot in the first half? And relying on five players is stupid, never mind what would of happened all we care about is what DID happen Every team has injuries so im not making excuses. The best team on the night won. But lets see where we are come May... WE ARE GOING UP

Jordan Posted 16 September 2010 Posted 16 September 2010 I wish I would have been able to see more of the game because the passing and off-the-ball movement on both goals was superb, but it sounded like there was plenty more of that in the rest of the game (particularly the second half). Don't ask me how Waghorn can nearly crack a half-volley for a goal with his right foot from the top of the box on the same night he missed an absolute sitter with that same foot...
Iwan is a Welshman Posted 16 September 2010 Posted 16 September 2010 Also, Hobbs continues to disappoint this season. He's still a useful member of the team, but he's struggling to regain the imperious form of the back end of last season. Maybe missing Wayne Brown?
