If, say, celebrity X was the face of any normal company, HMV, Boots, Tescos, whatever and it came out they'd advocated some far-right, fascist beliefs they'd be dropped like a sack of shit. Paolo Di Canio's horrendous politics were well and truly broadcast long before West Ham thought he was worthy of their celebration. What does it say to West Ham fans or players that may be of any ethnic minority, alternative religious background, sexuality or whatever?

Paolo di Canio mentioned in a BBC documentary in 2002 that he was a part of the 'Irriducibli' the lazio ultra's who are famed for their racist views and who are regularly pairing up with the Italian national front 'Forza Nouva'. If he isn't a racist then he certainly isnt doing much to better the picture that people have of him.

Unfortunately its a common theme throughout most of Italian football, I went to Inter vs Catania last season at the San Siro and there were Irriducibli banners up in the inter end and little alliances evident with other clubs who share the same views, politics are a big part of italian football and sadly a lot of it results in rioting/racism. The inter fans were a wonderful set of fans as were the Catania supporters it's just a shame that this minority still exist.

Not unique to Italy either, growing frustration and ignorance has seen Sweden vote for a horrific proportion of far-right politicians in their recent election and even in the UK we have the same people who celebrate our victory over Hitler stupidly voting in his succesors to Eu parliment and local council.

He was a member of SS Lazio and still considers himself a member. Yes he is a facist and has praised mussolini but people seem to think fascism and Nazism are the same thing. Thats all I was trying to say.
