broughtonblue Posted 19 September 2010 Posted 19 September 2010 Really am getting fed up of watching grown men rolling round on the floor like children after hardly being touched by their opponents. Diving and feigning injury is just cheating really. Anyone got any ideas how to stamp it out? My idea is, if they need the game to be stopped so they can be treated by the physio then they should be made to go off the pitch for 5 mins afterwards, after all if they were really injured the break would do them good and give the physio time to treat them properly. If the manager knew they would be would be down to 10 men on numerous occasions throughout the match I think it would stop pretty quickly.
Tilley Posted 19 September 2010 Posted 19 September 2010 Pennant was embarrassing on Monday night against Villa, should be ashamed of himself. I particularly hate to see an English player dive or roll around like a twat, usually the foreign fairies that do that.
Fox92 Posted 19 September 2010 Posted 19 September 2010 Diving is a form of cheating, and I was fed up of Nani today. He was going down left, right and centre after just a little touch. But, we'll never get rid of it because foreigners keep on coming into the English game. But when a player stays on his feet, he doesn't get the decision (penalty, free kick etc) so...
Samilktray Posted 19 September 2010 Posted 19 September 2010 Its not just foreigners. Stevie Gerrard is known to hit the deck without much contact being needed, amongst others.

I swear people moan when players are made to go off for like 5 seconds after receiving treatment at the minute, there would be outrage if you were put down to 10 men for 5 minutes. Yep, pesky foreigners. They're to blame for everything.
Guest Bilo Posted 19 September 2010 Posted 19 September 2010 Diving is an ugly side of the modern game that many players are guilty of. If you think English players are above it, you need to take your St George-tinted specs off. Wish it could be stamped out but it's too ingrained into the psyche of many players now so we're talking a major rule change.

Yes, was watching this today, was really shocked at around the 70 min mark when gerrard tackled him and he actually stayed on his feet. Must have shocked him as well cos he fell over 5 mins later and asked to be subbed

davieG Posted 19 September 2010 Posted 19 September 2010 Blame the managers, they could stop it if they wanted to, so could the owners of clubs. I've been given a few funny looks in the past when I've moaned loudly at our own player for diving and blatant time wasting. If teams want to use up time they should do it by keeping possession of the ball.
FoxyPV Posted 19 September 2010 Posted 19 September 2010 Send them off for it. If the refs do it consistently then the problem will soon be sorted.
DJMadness29 Posted 19 September 2010 Posted 19 September 2010 Surely theres enough cameras at any modern day game to see if anything was a blatent dive (you can usually tell the theatricals) and they should receive an automatic 2 match ban, straight up. If caught by the ref its instant dismissal. Problem is its going to take alot of work to get it out of game now as it has been brought in by the international players but now almost all players do it.. little knock and they're on their arse. It needs sorting as its ruining the game.
lildave3 Posted 19 September 2010 Posted 19 September 2010 Send them off for it. If the refs do it consistently then the problem will soon be sorted. Diving, ok. A little harsh but ok. But feigning injury? How can you ever be that certain someone is feigning injury?
broughtonblue Posted 19 September 2010 Author Posted 19 September 2010 Diving, ok. A little harsh but ok. But feigning injury? How can you ever be that certain someone is feigning injury? Precisely, a spell off the pitch will give physios time to check if they are actually injured. If they are then the rest rest will give them time to treat them. If they are feigning injury (cheating) then the time off the pitch will punish their team mates and give their opponents a deserved advantage
FoxyPV Posted 19 September 2010 Posted 19 September 2010 Feigning injury - harder to interpret but for diving - definitely. Make the punishment deliberately harsh so it stamps it out.

Fosse Boy Posted 19 September 2010 Posted 19 September 2010 Send them off for it. If the refs do it consistently then the problem will soon be sorted. Absolutely. However, I think it would be more than that required to be honest. You in essence need a change in culture, where the act of cheating is villified from all involved in the game. However, the authorities don't have the balls to own up to the fact the game is rife with cheats, neither do the clubs. Fans also consistently preach double standards in their attitude towards divers. Outraged by opposition players doing it, but if one of ours does it "he's just being cheeky, it's an art form, we're more sinned against than sinners". Makes me sick to my stomach when a Leicester player goes down like a nonce under a nothing challenge. In summary - I blame forenurz.
RedHux Posted 19 September 2010 Posted 19 September 2010 Deliberate diving should be punished in retrospect. Videos can be looked at and if no contact's made and the player hurled himself to the ground then some sort of punishment can be dealt out.
