Wycombe Fox Posted 30 September 2010 Posted 30 September 2010 Tour de France 2010 winner Alberto Contador tests positive for banned stimulant
dandannieldanok Posted 30 September 2010 Posted 30 September 2010 He's claiming food contamination, and I really hope that is the case. This is the last thing cycling needs, because apart from the ongoing Landis saga, the sport seems to have got rid of the drugs cloud after the spate of positive tests up until (and including) 2007.
James. Posted 30 September 2010 Posted 30 September 2010 They should not ban any substances. Firstly you wouldn't end up with controversy and disputes like this and secondly everyone would be properly quick, making the whole thing more exciting.

This news doesn't shock me at all. Personally I don't think it ever left the sport. It makes you wonder how many substances there are out there which can't be traced or the authorities aren't aware of. Every professional cyclist is receiving dope in one way or another.

It's certainly nowhere near as rife as it was a few years ago, but I agree that it is still hanging around the sport like a bad smell and will probably never go away. To be fair to the authorities, they've really attempted to clamp down on it and tighten up the drug testing; many riders have commented that drug testing at events has really increased a lot. It's an awkward situation because I'm not sure what more could be done by the authorities, but quite clearly what they are doing just isn't enough.
FoxyPV Posted 30 September 2010 Posted 30 September 2010 That's up there with the most shocking headlines of all time.
CosbehFox Posted 30 September 2010 Posted 30 September 2010 Does appear a lot of belief in him around the Cycling circles and judging the authorities initial favourable comments, I think he'll get off this. James, I take your point on board but I really think it would take something away from long distance cycling.
Jordan Posted 1 October 2010 Posted 1 October 2010 For a second, I thought the editorial staff of L'Équipe fit perfectly with our Yankee stereotype of Frenchmen as effete American-haters, but it looks like they're equal-opportunity witch-hunters.
