Hello. I'm in sixth form and I will be doing a presentation on the Hillsborough Disaster and safe standing.

If some of the older posters on this forum wouldn't mind could you please share your views on the Hillsborough Disaster? Such as, Where you was at the time of the disaster? How did you find out? What were your views/what did you think? What would this mean for Football etc?

What are peoples views on modern safe standing?

Anybody done anything similar?

Thankyou Ashley.

My recollections of the day, not guaranteed to have been remembered accurately we were playing Chelsea who were on an unbeaten 20 game run I believe. News filtered through the crowd of problems at Hillsborough and I guess most people's view, based on current events was more hooliganism.

We beat Chelsea and I went home expecting to see us dominating the headlines as a result but obviously it was all about the Hillsborough deaths.

Although hooliganism or standing wasn't in any way the cause I do believe that previous hooliganism, which had reach dangerous levels was a key factor in that it resulted in terraces being fenced in thus closing off escape routes. You only had to see the dead bodies squashed up against the fencing to see that.

Sad,sad day for football along with Heysel, Bradford and Ibrox disasters all in my life time.

Although only being a measley sperm cell at the time - I know quite a lot on the subject - it's one of the things that has always interested me...

The problem wasnt the standing. It was Sheffields finest. It was one idiot that opened an exit gate and the stewarding system was minimal. There was nobody directing people away from the 2 central "pens".

Sadly, the face of football changed. "lord" taylor decided all terracing was bad. "The fans were the problem".

Same old government. Never blame the police. Never blame thierselves.

I would love to see "safe" terracing introduced into football. It has been proven in Germany that it can work under the authority of heavy stewarding - If anything, lighter than what we have here!! It has been proven that it increases capacity, tickets sold and more importantly ATMOSPHERE!! :chant:

Truly one moment in time and one momentary lapse of common sense that changed the face of English football.
