Do it?

It's the kind of thing for all of us who fondly remember buildings from days gone by.

There's a WWII black ops airfield near us, which then became a hush hush Thor nuclear missile base. It's not so hush hush now, just another one of those places you can poke around, take some pictures and try to avoid people telling you off.

It's "Walking the dog" with a bit of added interest and sometimes excitement.

28 Days Later

Infiltration

It doesn't have to be illegal - it can include stuff like looking at the place where a bridge used to be before Ultra killed it. ph34r.gif

Bunkers, drains, sewers, airfields... There's so much history out there.

This confirms you've got far too much time on your hands.

No wonder poor Babbage has become agoraphobic.

I'm really up for this. I've been lurking on 28dayslater (there are some lovely pics) for a while now and there are a few people down here into it (I don't know them though).

If ever I get round to some UE I'll post some pics on here.

Yes.

Is that the airfield on the backroads from Lamport Daggers?

...and yes.

There's a WWII field just outside Desborough too.

Yes.

Feel free to entertain yourself planning Year 8 Art Schemes of Work for me. :D

I love sewers and ex-tube stations. Not been but it's become a 'must do before death' thing.

Awww...but I've only got six weeks until starting the new job.

I occasionally ride my moto-x bike down there - great place if your bike is quick enough to get away from the Pikeys.

I love UE - posted about it last year in the 'Great Buildings of Leicester' thread, though not much interest :(

I've been to a few decent places further a field and a couple near by which were sadly quite crap - the 'hidden' tunnels along the Kelmarsh route and the 'dungeon' at Rockingham Castle which turned out ito be more like a hole in the ground.

In the past few years UE seems to have changed from 'scary as shit asylums' to 'see how high you can get in big cities'. Love it all though to be honest...

Anybody know the name of the place that used to build radar's near Neil's warehouse just off Hinckley road near Braunstone? It never used to come up on OS maps or anything

Agoraphobic?

Not once it gets to midnight - then he can't wait to get outside and lie around in the snow.

Stupid bloody dog.

Bloody hell Daggers

Sounds like you've moved to my neck of the woods

I'd have thought that someone in your line of work could afford to live somewhere a bit better than a dank tunnel.

That's a few miles from my country pile.

I guess you were there looking for a bit of trade!

It's as near Market Street as you're likely to find in the sticks.

Good to see that you're familiarising yourself with your locality though.

That's the one - used to hang out at Kelmarsh when I was younger but never realised (until browsing some UE site) that there were more tunnels, in a more original state.

I know quite a few round here - will try and dig out some pics and post when I have a bit more time
