Ric Flair Posted 27 May 2005 Posted 27 May 2005 Just to keep you updated on our midfield magician. He's been playing for Australia Under 20's leading up to The World Championships next month. They lost to Colombia 2-0, Weso came on for the last 20 mins. The 2nd game they beat South Korea 1-0 and Weso played the whole 90 mins. Had a good game by all accounts. The last game they drew 1-1 with Morrocco and Wesolowski came on for the last 30 minutes. They've played 3 games in 6 days so it is quite intense out there. Hopefully Weso will do the business in the World Championships next month and he'll come home banging on Craig's door. He's only 17 and is the 2nd youngest player in the squad, it's looking good. Come on!!!!!!!!!
natas Posted 27 May 2005 Posted 27 May 2005 Hmm, he should do alright as we have a strong (by our standards) midfield. This squad is one of our stronger ones lately and should at least get to the quarter finals. They are showing the matches live over here, so i'll see if I can get some footage on here, when they have played, if I can figure out how to import it from video and stuff.

Do they rate him? I have read a few interviews with the Under 20's coach and he thinks Wesolowski is very talented especially at his age, but i've not read much else.
natas Posted 27 May 2005 Posted 27 May 2005 Thing is, you don't really get that much word on any players round here really, it's mostly Harry Kewell this and Harry Kewell that. You don't really get the hype about young players that you do in England, having said that all the coaches that have worked around him, have good raps on him, but the local soccer media haven't really picked up on his talent, as they mainly just concentrate on locally based youngsters on the few occasions they do talk about young talent.

Is he a striker or a midfielder? I just hope Levein recognises Weso's talent as he's technically a very good footballer. He wouldn't look out of place playing anywhere in midfield and that's priceless given Leicester's current plight.
natas Posted 27 May 2005 Posted 27 May 2005 David Williams is a striker, when it comes to hype, he has been getting a lot more then Weso over here, some people have been calling him our version of Freddy Adu. As you said it would be great if Weso did come good and make the first team, as it would save us some money and all that.
Steven Posted 27 May 2005 Posted 27 May 2005 Wesolowski is rated far more highly than Kewell by the Aussie coaches at the Australian Institute of Sport themselves. I have seen interviews and read articles confirming this. From my own point of view Kewell signed for Leeds when he was 17 and if Wesolowski is better than Kewell he will need to start making a strong case soon.
Scarby Posted 27 May 2005 Posted 27 May 2005 Big things are expected of this guy but i dont look to the future any more look what happened with petrescu...all those years of dreaming that Tomi was the next best thing and look what happened
Mark Posted 27 May 2005 Posted 27 May 2005 I hope this tournament is to be shown live on Eurosport, i'll definately be checking the games out if so. As I remember a few years ago, Tomi Petrescu was playing for Finland U-17's. He was the best player in all 3 games by far, even in a game they lost 9-1 he managed to get on the scoresheet! What a star he was looking to be and should have been by now.
Newcastle_Fox Posted 27 May 2005 Posted 27 May 2005 This scribe asked Morgan and Barrett if there is a new Kewell in the midst. And there was no hesitation; both immediatly said the same name...James Wesolowski. "Freak, the best kid we have ever seen here. I don't know if I could even compare Harry to him. Play him anywhere you like. He played Commonwealth Bank Cul at 13 in year 8, he's been playing 19's for Leicester City in England and he's only just turned 15. He's hardworking, mature and intelligent", says Morgan with sheer pride. "if anybody was going to make it, you'd put your money on James. He is far superior to most players and exceptional in his dedication. You've got a kid in year 9 who's the best player in the senior team", says Barrett, who has seen many a player in his time. So the future is burning bright for both Westfields and Australian soccer. Hopefully players like James Wesolowski and his teammates can kick Australia into a new generation of soccer success.

Steven Posted 27 May 2005 Posted 27 May 2005 I hope Wesolowski is capable of realising his potential.
Simon Posted 27 May 2005 Posted 27 May 2005 Amazing prospect, hope he can make the step up next year. Everything I've read suggest he can
Vo Rogue Posted 27 May 2005 Posted 27 May 2005 I hope Wesolowski is capable of realising his potential. 116321[/snapback] From what I've seen of him along with a few scouts there is not much doubt about him.Possibly development at LCFC may be a problem.Imagine the young man along with Dawson not being near 1st team and watching some terrible midfield players this year get runs this season.Must be terribly frustrating for them.

I would really like to see him given an opportunity after reading those comments. I just hope he shows what all the hype is about.
Vo Rogue Posted 29 May 2005 Posted 29 May 2005 Will LCFC be scouting for 19 to 20 yr olds at this World Cup tournament,an age group that CL says we're desperately short in?
