STUHILL Posted 15 December 2010 Posted 15 December 2010 On the owners. They maybe anonymous here but back in Thailand this is about raising both their and their company's profile. English football is held in high status there, so by association they will be looking to gain respect, publicity and notoriety. They are even showing home games live with king power a blazoned all over the place. And dont forget the trip to Thailand by sven and the players recently. Does anyone seriously believe there is any money to be made in football? I would very much doubt it. On Sven. He is one clever guy, both in football and in business. And a much better football coach than many in this country give him credit for. Having him as our manager raises the club's profile once again helping the Thai owners, whilst opening possibilities to players who would not look twice at us without Sven at the helm. I sincerely hope he is with us for the long haul, and not just using us as a shop window to step up again when the opportunity arises like is has currently at Blackburn. He needs to firm up a squad of players signed to the club permanently in January and put a stop to all the temp loans. Time will tell. On the Sven part, I really think he is a genuine man who has done well in Football by earning respect. Past players and coaches talk about this all the time and I think due to his private life, he has lost the respect of the public. I think staying with Leicester long-term is a way of re-gaining that respect and I think he knows this but not only that, I think he genuinely is up for the challenge of getting us promoted and after the Notts County mess-up, will want to at least see his 2 year contract through. On the Thai part, I wish we knew how rich these guys really are. Somehow, the just over 100million mark doesn't seem to be the whole story as the ambition and spending power so far suggests much more!!
Daggers Posted 15 December 2010 Posted 15 December 2010 Because we won things with him. Define 'household name' anyway. My Grandma has heard of Dagenham and Redbridge. My Dad knows the names of three teams - Man utd, us and Hamilton Academicals.
demon_dog Posted 15 December 2010 Posted 15 December 2010 While I for one feel that too many changes to the squad in such a short time can cause disruption. We surely are in such a position at the moment that the more quality we can bring in, then the greater the chance of us achieving a top six finish and hopefully the prized Premiership place that all of us would like to see. As for bringing in a top named player to satisfy the new owners and help market the club in Asia, I have no objection, provided that they show and prove their skills on the pitch to help us gain promotion (oh for a Theiry Henry) or in the case of someone like Beckham simply be there for the media to feed off and play the occassional cameo role when were winning.
