SOCCERROO FOX Posted 11 January 2011 Posted 11 January 2011 Floods It's been flooding in Queensland for weeks now but over night, if you've seen video footage it is being described as an inland Tsunami.
ACF Posted 11 January 2011 Posted 11 January 2011 This is insane. Can't believe that a year and a half ago they had the lowest dam capacity in the country.
SOCCERROO FOX Posted 11 January 2011 Author Posted 11 January 2011 Got a lot of mates that live around the Brissy area and there panicking at the moment
SOCCERROO FOX Posted 11 January 2011 Author Posted 11 January 2011 Sums up how big the damage is but i suspect it will keep increasing
Matt Posted 11 January 2011 Posted 11 January 2011 I have family up in Queensland, near Brisbane but luckly they aren't affected, the live quite high up, they are slighty cut off but atleast they are safe, for the moment. Must be horrible, devastating.
samjohnson Posted 11 January 2011 Posted 11 January 2011 Ive got a friend in Beerwah and last night (British time), the floods were gradually creeping up to his back door. Pretty bad time for them at the moment. What with losing the Ashes and everything
BoneDog Posted 11 January 2011 Posted 11 January 2011 I saw some of this on the news yesterday and it looks really bad. There were cars being washed into tress and the trees were getting uprooted because of the force of the water. I didn't think Australia had this kind of weather. Does it happen every year over there or is it rare? Here's a video someone took from there office window yesterday. It's not as bad as some of the news footage but shows how quick it can happen. Plenty of cars get swept away in a short while. The dude who lets his tyres down and then drives off has flood experience I think!
cambridgefox Posted 11 January 2011 Posted 11 January 2011 The power of nature, those cars on top of each other at the end.You wouldnt stand a chance if you went in.

But never normall to this extent. It's summer and we have only had about 7 days of weather over 32 which is incredibley rare. Melbourne is actually getting plenty of rain atm aswell but in Perth there is bushfires
Matt Posted 12 January 2011 Posted 12 January 2011 Just been told friends of my family might have to evacuate and their house might go under tomorrow. Terrible.
broughtonblue Posted 12 January 2011 Posted 12 January 2011 So your country is being washed away? Bet the last thing you wanted was 11 Englishmen coming over and doing a dance resembling a water sprinkler!
StanSP Posted 12 January 2011 Posted 12 January 2011 http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/tennis/9358758.stm Nice gesture I suppose. And I don't think we'll see many footballers or other high-paid sports stars donating at least some of their wages to help those in need

And I don't think we'll see many footballers or other high-paid sports stars donating at least some of their wages to help those in need Timmy Cahill has but he is an Aussie, he is even auctioning two first class tickets from any where is Aus and tickets in his box for any Everton Game at Goodison
ACF Posted 13 January 2011 Posted 13 January 2011 14 dead now. One story that will stay with me for is the 13 year old boy, petrified of water, who's family were stuck in there car during the Toowoomba floods, told the rescuers to save his little brother first, then was washed away and killed.
BoneDog Posted 14 January 2011 Posted 14 January 2011 This from HeraldSun .com : "TWO bull sharks have reportedly been spotted swimming down the main street of a flooded Queensland town, 30km inland. Butcher Steven Bateman spotted two bull sharks swimming near his Goodna shop yesterday - one of several reports of a sharks in Goodna's main street. Ipswich local councillor Paul Tully confirmed it was a bizarre but true story out of Queensland's flood disaster." My link

SOCCERROO FOX Posted 20 January 2011 Author Posted 20 January 2011 http://www.abc.net.au/news/infographics/qld-floods/beforeafter.htm Before/after photos showing the magnitude of the floods. Crazy. There is now flooding in Victoria now aswell as Queensland the whole thing is crazy
SOCCERROO FOX Posted 2 February 2011 Author Posted 2 February 2011 First floods now the poor bastards need to brace for a massive cyclone Pottentially more damaging than Hurricane Katrina
StanSP Posted 2 February 2011 Posted 2 February 2011 That's scary man. What's with all the recent natural disasters hitting Australia recently? It's never been this bad before has it, well not in my lifetime that I can remember
BoneDog Posted 2 February 2011 Posted 2 February 2011 Good job I'm not flying into Brisbane in 2 weeks time. Are you over there now? First floods now the poor bastards need to brace for a massive cyclone Pottentially more damaging than Hurricane Katrina Reading that link it sounds like a very frickin big and bad one. Must be well scary for the people out there especially as the emergency services aren't allowed to come out for 24 hours. Fingers crossed it all passes without any more deaths. How far away are you from that area?
SOCCERROO FOX Posted 2 February 2011 Author Posted 2 February 2011 Not this bad but i'm expecting some bushfires soon as well

How far away are you from that area? I'm about an 45km south of Melbourne so i'm about 3 hours by plane possibly more away from where the Cyclone will hit
BoneDog Posted 2 February 2011 Posted 2 February 2011 I knew Australia was big but I didn't realise it was that big. Over 3 hours on a plane just to get to another part of the country. I can get to Majorca in less time than that!
SOCCERROO FOX Posted 2 February 2011 Author Posted 2 February 2011 I can fly for 6 or 7 hours and still be in the country, it is sizeable
