Katy Posted 30 May 2005 Posted 30 May 2005 Hes NOT funny and just rips off other peoples joke! Grrrrrrrrr he does my head in
Durnerz Posted 30 May 2005 Posted 30 May 2005 Havn't seen any of his stand up stuff so I'll wait till that thing on channel 4 to pass judgement.
Stuliasz Posted 30 May 2005 Posted 30 May 2005 Stand up wise I don't rate him, but the office was absolute genius.
toonboy Posted 30 May 2005 Posted 30 May 2005 He is bloody funny The Office was great and his stand up's are quite good but not hilarious.
Cobbo Posted 30 May 2005 Posted 30 May 2005 He just sems to try and be as controversial as possible in his stand up without great success in my view. Doesn't make me laugh much. The Office wasn't all bad though!
Muz Posted 31 May 2005 Posted 31 May 2005 Stand up wise I don't rate him, but the office was absolute genius. 117541[/snapback] Ditto Its the same with Peter Kay once you have seen one of his stand ups you have seen them all. He is much more succesful in TV Series eg Max and Paddy that was comedy genius!
Ric Flair Posted 31 May 2005 Posted 31 May 2005 The Office was pure magic. Stand up is a funny old business, I think it depends what mood you are in to find it funny or not. But Gervais makes me piss whatever he does and he's a genius, but his stand-up isn't a patch on The Office or his stuff he used to do on the 11 o'clock show.
Frenzied Posted 31 May 2005 Posted 31 May 2005 The Office is class. Only seen his Animals stand-up, which had me in stitches at times.

Scow Posted 2 June 2005 Posted 2 June 2005 I'm watching it now - Not really funny at all. Stick to The Office.
Fez of Mahrez Posted 2 June 2005 Posted 2 June 2005 I think the bits where he's non-PC are very funny but he rambles a bit too much and he's very self-indulgent. The Office was good but it had been done before by other people, it was just that it was the right moment for it to be a mainstream hit. He was crap on the 11 O'Clock Show, Sacha Baron Cohen made Gervais' section look pathetic. Standup is difficult really, I've never liked someone consistently, used to like Eddie Izzard but lately I've found him embarrassingly unfunny. I like Jimmy Carr but I can see him going stale too. Always find Jack Dee quite good. Best standup I've seen recently was Dylan Moran but that was very much my kind of humour and I can imagine people sitting and watching it thinking 'what a load of shite'. That's the beauty of personal opinion though innit?
