sphericalfox Posted 21 January 2011 Posted 21 January 2011 Are we underestimating our new owners? Have they not been respectful, encouraging, and generous? Does anyone have a different view to this considering the actions/reactions of other club owners in recent weeks and months? Read me blogginsand share your thoughts!
sphericalfox Posted 21 January 2011 Author Posted 21 January 2011 Anybody fear that a bit of success and our owners might come out of their shells and start to make unwanted 'improvements'?
Houdini Logic Posted 21 January 2011 Posted 21 January 2011 Anybody got five hundred other things to worry about in their life aside from this?
cc_star Posted 21 January 2011 Posted 21 January 2011 The seem fine, but so did Hicks & Gillette and the Glazers, so who knows. Seeming fine is a good way to get what you want. For now at least their aims are aligned with the fans, what happens in the future through is a whole different matter and impossible to guess. One things highly probable though, we're in debt up to our eyeballs through a labyrinth of a lending structure (remember this next time you want an £80k/week player on loan for a couple of months, over someone who's reasonable & already on our books) and if it doesn't work out on the pitch our previous money problems & administration will be a walk in the park
sphericalfox Posted 21 January 2011 Author Posted 21 January 2011 Anybody got five hundred other things to worry about in their life aside from this? Yeah, I know I do, but it's worth asking the question, when in comparison to the club's mentioned we've seemingly got competant owners, rather than ones which will wreck our club. I'd say it's worth 10 minutes of thought at least. Maybe even 11 minutes.
davieG Posted 21 January 2011 Posted 21 January 2011 Knowing very few facts about the various clubs you've mentioned including LCFC makes for little constructive input. Seemingly being competent tells us nothing because about how much that seemingly competency costs. Didn't we seemingly try to sign Beckham, is that significantly different to Blackburn 'talking' of signing Ronaldino we don't even know if they were serious or whether they were just talking their club up in the media to make it sound bigger than it is. I'll reserve my judgement, in football it's rare that things are as they seem.

They'll have a ceiling of investment of course, but they'll have a marketing plan ready and in place to make money hand over fist in the Asian market. So all this talk of they'll break us financially by getting big wage players in is a nonsense, that is of course that we never get to the Prem, but I can't see this being the case with the Sven at the helm!
cc_star Posted 21 January 2011 Posted 21 January 2011 Like I say, our aims aligned... the only way they can get their £40m + players back is by getting us up, the only way they can make money on top of that is by keeping us up So good bad or indifferent we're shackled together, although I have to say up to my its been great and the Thailand trip was phenomenal!!!

Which only works if you can stay there, it's not that easy or cheap and if you over do it, like we did last time and Pompey have done and maybe WHU then who knows what the future holds. Bottom line is we don't know the facts and you're making some massive assumptions viewed through rose tinted specs based on next to nothing, fair enough if it makes you feel good but it's all hypothetical.

There is no rose-tinted specs on here. What I am saying is that I had a cynical view of the owners when they bought us, and they haven't yet made us look foolish a la Blackburn's owners. We can talk about bringing in high level calibre players, as we have a high calibre manager, nothing outrageous in that. The media has done mostof the speculation and linked us with everyone and sundry. What I am saying is that our owner's have gone about things in a much more professional way, not exactly the same can be said about the Hammers and the Rovers.
callis Posted 21 January 2011 Posted 21 January 2011 so far to me they seem a major step in the right direction. They want to back an ex eng coach who in my opinion is doing a good job. they are not scared to pay wages and hopefully trans fee's. They want to keep there best players and build the stadium's capacity when needed. I tihnk so far so good. Cant waste the day comparing them to all other foreign owners when there are some awful english ones about.

Our treatment of Pearson/Sousa which they must have been party to is on a par with if not worse than WHU/Grant and I don't see how Blackburn, a PL Clubs interest in Ronaldinio was more outrageous than our very public attempt to bring in Beckham, certainly from what i read most people thought it was a big joke. It's all relative, on the face of it no they've not done anything too bad but they're chasing the buck just like all the others, that is why they own us but you can't really say how professional or otherwise they've been behind the scenes because you don't know. Frankly publicly they've done very little anyway to 'change' LCFC

Do you think we would be playing the sort of passing football if Nigel was still manager? I dont know why you worry because this country will go bust long before the thias running Leicester city.
Thracian Posted 22 January 2011 Posted 22 January 2011 The new owners are still feeling their way and it's risky to pre-judge what they will mean for our future. But I've had a closer-than-usual look just lately and there's no doubt they're intent on making real changes that are intended for the better. Works on the ground for a start. They're planning a significant revamp of the West Stand - using the people who designed the Emirates. They've already relaid the pitch as you'll see today and there's a major drive to make the fans feel part of the club, and to listen to their feedback. Basically if the owners think something will take the club forward they'll back it - and that's come from inside the club, not from me. Whether all the decisions will prove wise ones remains to be seen but the will is there for sure.

Did I say I felt sorry for them - No, Whether I would rather have Sousa over Sven has nothing to do with the debate in progress, as for me worrying about us going bust I'm just responding to the OP who seems to have a rosy look without any justification, not that I think he should have a desperate view I just believe based on the information available no one is able to make a valid judgement on what they are doing. Repeating myself - I'll reserve judgement on our owners until someone produces some relevant facts.

I'm glad you've concluded that I've made my thoughts on no evidence whatsoever, and you yourself reserve any opinion on the matter, but negate anyone forming any opinion other than not having an opinion on our owners. Whilst I, nor anybody on this forum are knowledgeable on financial matters with the club, I've not made any mention of these, I have made the opinion discussed based on fan opinion, and my own feelings about them currently. That is the key word currently. This isn't a permanent standpoint, just a feeling I currently have regarding them. I reserve making a conclusion, as of course this would be something to do at the end of a tenure, not the beginning. All I know is that if I were them, and of course this is speculation (people can disagree or agree with me - either is fine) is that these boys clearly have a plan in place, which is slowly revealing itself. In comparison to West Ham and Blackburn, it seems to me, and I am not privy to anything other than what's in the media and my own logic, that they are making a ham-fisted mess of the clubs the now own, which is an opinion shared amongst the followers of their clubs. The article was to not point and laugh, but to suggest at this stage, currently, that we seem to be running in the right direction, without a circus, as much as the media are trying their best to paint the picture of us. Oh how they all love Leicester - the bastards! If there is no room for conjecture, then there is no room for a forum, which at a guess is pretty much the majority of the statements made within. As a mod, you should know this. BTW: I'd love to have rose-tinted, or x-ray specs, they would come handy in many situations, however, I don't have a.) the optimism or b.) the technology, there could be a fortune to be made though, I'd say there's a market there. Let me know if you come across a consignment of either! I've got some contacts

I take your point that currently things are looking good and professionally run. Perhaps after suffering the many duplicitous Mandaric years it's made me even more cynical and wary in general of glory/money chasing owners and let's face it ours are hardly dyed in the wool City fans. I enjoy reading your blogs and find myself being the ying to your yang sometimes just to stimulate further debate, certainly nothing personal. Keep blogging Regards

Bob Weasel Fox Posted 23 January 2011 Posted 23 January 2011 errrm - another lazy post from me but generally ive been really impressed by the new owners but thats not to say thigs cant or wont go wrong because as we know at City they certainly can. So in short i dont wont to be thai'd down either way just yet on wether they are good for the club but up to now yes!!! Side note, looking back now i honestly think the Mandaric years were a disaster, any thoughts?
Fox1651 Posted 23 January 2011 Posted 23 January 2011 i agree jjstowell i think the Mandaric years were a disaster (3rd division for the first time in our proud history - i still cringe now)
Bob Weasel Fox Posted 23 January 2011 Posted 23 January 2011 How far do we think the Thai owners can push us? Any thoughts?
sphericalfox Posted 23 January 2011 Author Posted 23 January 2011 How far do we think the Thai owners can push us? Any thoughts? You'll have to be more specific. By which hypothetical method are you suggesting?
Bob Weasel Fox Posted 23 January 2011 Posted 23 January 2011 Well lets just suggest they get us into the premier league? Heres hoping. But then what, sensible wages for sensible (swop sensible for affordable in both the transfer fee and wages sense)) players and mid table (Oneill years sort of top 10 stuff) or do you think they would push us on even further?

It's difficult to tell how much money they have to spend, and whether they are reasonable and listen to advice. That's why I suggested we put in place a CE who knows the game, and has been around, to balance any manic purchases, and keep Lee Hoos in check. I think they obviously have a plan to upgrade the stadium to accommodate the hopeful influx of new fans and generation of money from this, but their main source of income will be generated from Asia. It's a market they know and are pretty useful at making money from, it may not be football mind, but that'll no doubt come. They seem to have a bit of common sense, not like the Venky's.
