lcfc_amie Posted 17 March 2011 Posted 17 March 2011 1.Do You know what you would like to do in the future: Yes and no, i have an idea of the type of career i want to go into, but not specifically made my mind up yet. 2.What Help And Support Is available to help you make decisions about your future plans? I'm in 6th form, so the teachers and staff there are always willing to help. 3.What have you done at school to teach you about careers? (Includes Lessons, Enrichment, Work Experience etc.) We have a "guidance" lesson every week, where we sometimes talk about careers. I did one weeks work experience in year 10 (in year 13 now), and i'm currently doing a work placement as part of one of my courses. Last year we also had a "futures conference" where future careers were talked about. 4.Of Everything you said in the previous question (Question 3) what have you really enjoyed and why? I really enjoyed my work experience, and am enjoying my work placement, as it gives me practical experience which i find will be useful in the future. 5. Of everything you said in question 3 what didn't you enjoy and why? "guidance" lessons, they're not too bad, just a bit repetative as we have a lesson every week. 6. List everything you know what connexions (Career advice company) does Careers an uni advice Helping to find part time work Provides somebody to talk to about anything you want. 7. Do you know a connexions adviser No 8. How do you get a Connexions Interview in your school (if you go school, If not leave blank) I'm not 100% sure, but i think you just go to the office and ask for a connexions interview. 9. What are the best things about the connexions service? They provide somebody to talk to and offer advice. 10: What could be better about the Connexions service? The only thing i can think of, is to make it open to older people to (up to the age of 25?) Because when i finish uni, i'll be 20/21, and then won't be able to get advice from connexions, as i'll be too old. 11. What kind of help and advice do you think Connexions should provide? Careers and uni advice, just providing somebody to talk to. Maybe providing interview practice (don't know if they do this already) 12. What would make an ideal job interview? Quite informal and relaxed, so that it feels more like a friendly chat than a formal interview. I've filled it it the best that i can, hope it helps

The Doctor Posted 17 March 2011 Posted 17 March 2011 Name: Alistair Proudman (2nd Year/ Year 13) 1.Do You know what you would like to do in the future: Yes 2.What Help And Support Is available to help you make decisions about your future plans? Don't know 3.What have you done at school to teach you about careers? (Includes Lessons, Enrichment, Work Experience etc.) One 2 week work experience placement (at previous college) and 4 or so weeks of "careers" - a 1 hour lesson that was of no use what so ever (also previous college 4.Of Everything you said in the previous question (Question 3) what have you really enjoyed and why? Parts of the work-experience, ended up at a BTLB, packaging and shipping is incredibly boring, working with the technical side of things (installs, programming voice recorders etc.) was fun though 5. Of everything you said in question 3 what didn't you enjoy and why? "Careers" lesson - 4 or so weeks, i took absolutely nothing away from that, no interview advice, CV production tips etc. - mostly just looking at the distribution of workers between sectors (slightly interesting but of absolutely no use what so ever), followed by 1 half hour learning shorthand 6. List everything you know what connexions (Career advice company) does Nothing 7. Do you know a connexions adviser no 8. How do you get a Connexions Interview in your school (if you go school, If not leave blank) I don't know, not even sure if college do connexions 9. What are the best things about the connexions service? Never used it so don't know 10: What could be better about the Connexions service? Never used it so don't know 11. What kind of help and advice do you think Connexions should provide? Compiling CVs, interview tips. 12. What would make an ideal job interview? Something slightly more informal, one less about you as a person and more about testing your knowledge of the job - i find it hard to "big myself up" as it were.
Mee Posted 17 March 2011 Posted 17 March 2011 I still always think LargeAl is 30+. So i am not the only one? I always think of him as one of those old men who stand around chemistry equipment all day, and when a bubble happens they all jizz.

StanSP Posted 17 March 2011 Posted 17 March 2011 Name: Sunil Parmar 1.Do You know what you would like to do in the future: Yes. Known for a few years. Very slight change recently, but broadly, yes. 2.What Help And Support Is available to help you make decisions about your future plans? Parents/brother are/can be influential to guide me in right direction. As well as career teachers, personal tutor, lecturers at uni. 3.What have you done at school to teach you about careers? (Includes Lessons, Enrichment, Work Experience etc.) Well, I'm at uni now, but when I was in 6th form, we had tests to see where our best abilities were, discussions with external and internal career counsellors. Also had enrichment lessons each week. 4.Of Everything you said in the previous question (Question 3) what have you really enjoyed and why? I wouldn't say I enjoyed it for the right reasons! A lot of people in our year didn't take it very seriously; out of one whole term, I can only remember the one important session being about CV writing, which at the time was handy for me and a lot of others. But we only enjoyed it because the other times it was more of a relaxed session of time during the day, bordering on dossing around! 5. Of everything you said in question 3 what didn't you enjoy and why? Didn't enjoy that most of the time it was a waste of time within the day. 6. List everything you know what connexions (Career advice company) does I've never been in Connexions, only JobCentre Plus and even that was for a few weeks. But I'm guessing Connexions is similar in simply helping to find you a job tailored to your best abilities to an extent. 7. Do you know a connexions adviser Nope. 8. How do you get a Connexions Interview in your school (if you go school, If not leave blank) N/A 9. What are the best things about the connexions service? N/A 10: What could be better about the Connexions service? N/A 11. What kind of help and advice do you think Connexions should provide? N/A 12. What would make an ideal job interview? A bit of friendliness and camaraderie from the interviewer. Too much pressure will just make the interviewee more nervous than he/she already is. I'm not saying they have to be all lovey-dovey, but just a bit of friendly chat to get the interviewee at ease and calmer before they get to the job-related questions. I'd also prefer one-on-one job interviews; I don't like the fact that at least 1 other person is sat there, watching you, judging you and observing you fully whilst you answer questions. I'd feel less pressure if it was one-on-one; I'd feel like I was making a connection solely with the person asking me the questions, whereas I'd feel no connection with 2 or 3 interviewers. I've only had 2 interviews in my life, and both went pretty awesome and got the jobs pretty easily, so my experiences with interviews have been top notch Hope this helps!
iBleedLeicesterColours Posted 17 March 2011 Posted 17 March 2011 So i am not the only one? I always think of him as one of those old men who stand around chemistry equipment all day, and when a bubble happens they all jizz. Snap!

(Includes Lessons, Enrichment, Work Experience etc.) Work experience, Dedicated tutor time lessons, assemblies, guest speakers 4. Of Everything you said in the previous question (Question 3) what have you really enjoyed and why? Work experience as I got to actually get a feel of what it's like 5. Of everything you said in question 3 what didn't you enjoy and why? Tutor time lessons as it was all filling in a booklet about the laws and boring stuff 6. List everything you know what connexions (Career advice company) does Helps you find jobs, helps you decide what to do when you finish school, 7. Do you know a connexions adviser I knew of one 8. How do you get a Connexions Interview in your school (if you go school, If not leave blank) Ask at the library 9. What are the best things about the connexions service? Can point you in the right direction, even if they cannot directly help you they'll know some resource that can 10: What could be better about the Connexions service? The advisors could not speak down to you like you're a retarded monkey who couldn't even pass GCSEs (maybe these are their normal target audience though?) 11. What kind of help and advice do you think Connexions should provide? First step into life outside of school eg. first job, moving out of home etc 12. What would make an ideal job interview? Only ever had one and that was in the front of the shop in the public so was awkward.
