Austin Posted 26 April 2011 Posted 26 April 2011 Who likes this peach of a show then? I only got into it about 6 months ago but have now seen every episode of it and absolutely love it! Anyone else feel utterly depressed that Michael Scott (Steve Carell) is leaving? wont be the same when he's gone!
jonthefox Posted 26 April 2011 Posted 26 April 2011 Never watched it to be fair, although i passionatly hate yank remakes of good british comedy.

rico Posted 26 April 2011 Posted 26 April 2011 rumour is that either Jim Carrey or Will Ferrell will take over from Steve Carell
Haydos Posted 26 April 2011 Posted 26 April 2011 Incredible show. I've raved about it in the 'what are you watching' thread. So, so good and you're right, can't really compare it to the British version. Much more likeable IMO though.

Austin Posted 26 April 2011 Author Posted 26 April 2011 rumour is that either Jim Carrey or Will Ferrell will take over from Steve Carell It was already confirmed that Will Ferrell would feature in 4 episodes and so far i've seen two of them Dont know what i'd think about Jim Carrey

Have you seen the latest episode? The ending made me want to cry haha!
Haydos Posted 26 April 2011 Posted 26 April 2011 Will Ferrell's already taken over the boss role with Carrell helping to ease the transition.
rico Posted 26 April 2011 Posted 26 April 2011 Cant really see either fitting into that role. they are being interviewed for the job in the series along with Catherine Tate, also Gervais to make a cameo
Finchy Posted 26 April 2011 Posted 26 April 2011 I usually do, but it wipes the floor with our one Definitely doesn't.
Austin Posted 26 April 2011 Author Posted 26 April 2011 they are being interviewed for the job in the series along with Catherine Tate, also Gervais to make a cameo Hopefully better then his cameo in this series, was built up alot then it was less then a minute of him and Carell!
jonthefox Posted 26 April 2011 Posted 26 April 2011 they are being interviewed for the job in the series along with Catherine Tate, also Gervais to make a cameo Maybe its just me, but i always think original is best. I mean can you imagine anyone other than john cleese playing basil fawlty. But if my memory serves me there is some shite remake somewhere in the vaults.
Austin Posted 26 April 2011 Author Posted 26 April 2011 Definitely doesn't. each to there own and all that jazz .. Personal opinion, I loved the English Office but I think the US one is better

Finchy Posted 26 April 2011 Posted 26 April 2011 Don't get me wrong, i'm a big fan of the US Office, but you can't compare them. What's great about the original is how clever and subtle it is, it's almost like a real documentary which is what makes it funnier. All that is lost in the US office, it's very obviously a sit-com.

They shouldn't really be compared, because like you've stated they're both very different in how they're shot. I like them both as do you Can't give you a reason why really, just like Haydos said .. The Office US is much more likeable which I completely agree with I think I prefer the Jim and dwight pranking much more to the tim and gareth pranks.

I think that might be a case of being too well written on the US versions part. It is just as subtle but a lot more regular which I guess you could say makes it unsubtle The original played the cringe-factor to death and in the end I didn't think the cringe:funny ratio was that good. The US version gives so much more comedy and the acting of the characters outside the main 3 is infinitely better IMO. Carrell is a fantastically intelligent and talented actor which gives it so much as well, perfectly cast.
Austin Posted 26 April 2011 Author Posted 26 April 2011 I genuinely love this clip from the latest episode, for me I think that the tears from Steve Carell seem quite genuine and I'd love to think when they were singing it they kind of meant every word. It's going to be a shame when he's gone but he's been awesome, such a wonderfully talented actor!

Disagree with every single thing you just said, so instead of me doing a massive reply just think about what the opposite of each statement you've made is. And watch this after http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IOwXkSODdZ0 "Not sexual"

Another thing that doesn't do it any favours is it's short life. Little room for character/relationship developments or actors to grow into their roles which was a shame.

Noooo, that's part of the genius aswell, The Office US has gone on for far too long, so many average episodes. The original was a perfect length, every single episode was superb, it quit whilst it was ahead and it will be / is looked back on as one of the greatest comedies of all time because of this. As for characters growing into their roles, they didn't need to, they were perfect from the start, you will never convince me the actors and the character relationships have been better in the US Office.
Ozwin Posted 26 April 2011 Posted 26 April 2011 The US version is still going strong imo. They're both completely different anyway.
Fosse Boy Posted 26 April 2011 Posted 26 April 2011 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NLziURJcTJY "You, you my friend would be da belle of da ball." lol Scott is classic... Agree, Finchy shits over Todd Packer. That said, some of the original characters in the US version (those that don't have UK equivalents like Creed and Andy) have added to the show which in turn has allowed it to develop differently which is a good thing. The US first series was pretty shite really but since then they've allowed it to spread its wings a bit - though I will admit it seems to have declined in quality in S 6 and 7. Anyway, Creed Bratton - in stitches every time with him...

Love Andy though, great character.
