Guest Col city fan Posted 27 April 2011 Posted 27 April 2011 Its likely that QPR are going to win the league this season. However, comparing our squad with theirs, I suggest that we possess as many flair players as do QPR. Naughton, King, Kamara, Gally would all be pushing, I would argue, for a place in the QPR side.... Where we differ, in my opinion, lies in three factors: 1. Warnock has far more experience of this tough division than does Sven 2. Warnock has had a settled squad to work with 3. There are some tough old heads in the QPR team, all with experience at this level.... Paddy Kenny, Shaun Derry, Clint Hill, Fitz Hall for example Now.... 1 and 2 above should start to happen the longer that Sven remains at the helm. Its on point 3 that I feel Sven can make a difference in the transfer market. IMO if we bring-in some hard bar-stewards, with experience of motivating the younger lads, this will pay dividends. It is for this reason that I think Sven should not go for Bruma, for Loach, or for PVA. Instead, lets try to sign some older, wiser heads to bring on the younger talent we have at the club, or we MAY have at the club (eg. Mee, Naughton) We have such players...I hear you say, in Wellens and Oakley, but, again IMO, they are not 'tough' enough to perform the sort of role that I am advocating. This is why I think Sven should be going for the likes of Faye, Given in goal, and the like.... We seem to be focussing on trying to bring-in younger starlets who, given time, may progress to be something special. But, the Championship is full of rough and tough, full of wise old owls and full of having to scrap for wins. This is where Warnock has excelled this season.. I would attempt to encourage some of this type of player to join City, and to make one of them the skipper... Opinions please...
sdb Posted 27 April 2011 Posted 27 April 2011 Agreed. We had more last season and finished higher. This league is about consistency, fight, strength and stamina, with a touch of flair. We've got it in the wrong ratio, although it's nicer to watch (when it works).
cairnsy Posted 27 April 2011 Posted 27 April 2011 Sven chopped and changed as he had limited options and time at the time. I'm sure he himself wants consistiency and we will see it met season I hope

Heart-Shaped Fox Posted 27 April 2011 Posted 27 April 2011 Warnock doesnt have his favourites, Sven does. Warnock knows how to build a team for this league, without having any realy quality plyaers in every position. Sven needs to learn this, get us organised and playing as a team rather than a bunch of individuals which it has been at times.
Guest Col city fan Posted 27 April 2011 Posted 27 April 2011 Haven't you made this thread before? nope...
Libertine Posted 27 April 2011 Posted 27 April 2011 nope... Fair enough. Must've just been in another thread. Mostly agree though.

Im sure Warnock does have his favourites... Paddy Kenny being one example.. I think Clint Hill played for him before too All managers have their favourite players, in the same way as they have their favourite backroom staff... Redknapp and Bond, O'Neil and Robertson, Clough and Taylor... It actually worries me that Sven doesnt really seem to have 'favourite players' who have played for him before and who he wanted to bring with him.

He brought Solsol Bamba after working with him in the Ivory Coast. Plenty would be a bit out of our league anyway I'd have thought.

cairnsy Posted 27 April 2011 Posted 27 April 2011 fair enough, thats not really what I'm saying though.. You talked about sven bringing in young scarlets but that's all he could get at the time, either them or those who are frees or out of favour in their club currently. So yeah I agree with what your saying but you are saying it as if he had a choice on who to choose from

cairnsy Posted 27 April 2011 Posted 27 April 2011 I getcha yes..very true... that can change now of course... Yeah without a doubt i agree we need a mix of youth and old heads. Sven has the youth and is currently (speculated) Looking for old head in given and Heskey.

Sven has the youth and is currently (speculated) Looking for old head in given and Heskey. I'm sorry to have to disagree with you again but the type of player I am advocating isn't Heskey. I've met Emile and his dad..they are lovely blokes the pair, but not the sort of 'nasty bastads' I'm advocating on this thread. However, I do think a FIT Emile could do a holding job for us up top
cairnsy Posted 27 April 2011 Posted 27 April 2011 I was talking about Heskey being an old head to lead, not having grit. I think the best player to have grit is in either the cb or cdm role and I hope Sven is looking for one.

Guest Col city fan Posted 27 April 2011 Posted 27 April 2011 Two agrees in 5 minutes - success! dont be fooled.... .... i'm happy that you're opinion is becoming more 'balanced'
B52 Posted 27 April 2011 Posted 27 April 2011 Well, marbelladave has talked about this as long as I can remember..... This is probably why Sven had a hard time to get his formations to work... Theese kind of midfield players don't grow on trees. He tried to offload a bit off pressure with strikers but it wasn't enough. So Ccf, is this knowhow enough to join the joyride?
cairnsy Posted 27 April 2011 Posted 27 April 2011 dont be fooled.... .... i'm happy that you're opinion is becoming more 'balanced' It's always been balanced, you have just had horse blinkers on for a while

Definitely agree about him knowing how to build a team for the Championship. He's done it time and time again. Just such a shame Milan didnt just appoint him when he had the chance instead of listening to the moaners and opting for Holloway instead.
Stadt Posted 27 April 2011 Posted 27 April 2011 Agreed, Wayne Brown for example - He wasn't blessed with ball skills but he organised and gave people bollockings when he needed to. This year, even though we have done well considering where we were, we've lacked an old experienced head thats quite vocal, something i've noticed especially when we're losing, no one seems to be geeing up players.
