SOCCERROO FOX Posted 6 May 2011 Posted 6 May 2011 I enjoy it and it sure beats the hell out of doing nothing on Friday and Saturday nite. Only drink on weekends when i go out and when on holidays then it's everyday. Went 3 months with out drinking about 18 months ago and it was really weird i turned in to a bit of a hermit, almost everything you do it's just the norm to have a drink (mates houses to watch the footy, pub, club, even enjoying a wine with a lady friend). It was easy to not drink but it was just boring and you almost felt anti social.
ajthefox Posted 6 May 2011 Posted 6 May 2011 It's all about the social aspect. Going out, forgetting about all the shit thats gone on in the past week, letting your inhibitions go a little and having a good night. I was pretty late to start drinking really and I have been too far on a few rare occasions at uni/on holiday but that happens to everyone, and to be honest apart from september coming which will be my final freshers, I don't forsee myself going out on a massive bender all week bender for any other reason because getting drunk for the sake of it is not really my thing. I think it's also worth stating that when I'm not knocking back tinnies before a night out, a few casual pints down the pub or in the garden is a very enjoyable thing as well.
Trav Le Bleu Posted 6 May 2011 Posted 6 May 2011 That's my biggest problem, people will say I was absolutely fine, knew exactly what I was doing and wasn't pissed at all... but often I can't remember a thing past about 5/6 pints. I just put it down to how my body handles the alcohol. I'm not a stupid drunk, Ive never staggered around not knowing what I'm doing (well maybe twice), but my mind just blanks out a bit. Yeah, everyone says I was ok too, but how can I be sure? At least it means that at our core were decent people. In vino veritas and all that. I think.
Trav Le Bleu Posted 6 May 2011 Posted 6 May 2011 my doctor has ordered me to drink 8 pints of lager day Have you added him into your will?
Zingari Posted 6 May 2011 Posted 6 May 2011 Have you added him into your will? no i tricked him into it , because i know every time he asks me how much i drink , he always tells me to cut it down by half , so i told him i drink 16 pints of lager a day
DANGEROUS TIGER Posted 7 May 2011 Posted 7 May 2011 Most people who enjoy a drink, have been drunk at some time.No problem,. What I really object to, are the idiots who deliberately go out to "get pissed". Total morons
dave the caveman Posted 7 May 2011 Posted 7 May 2011 I don't drink very often anymore mainly because the kind of places people go to drink are so crap. This is going to sound pretentious, but I used to love my local nightclub, when I was 16. Then as soon as I turned 18 I was getting mashed at Fabric and Sankeys every couple of weeks. Since then I've done Ibiza several times, partied in South America, been to full moon parties on Ko Pha Ngan, got pissed up on rice wine on a Chinese mountain, hammered Jager bombs in every stop along the east coast of Australia and sat on barstools chatting to all manner of characters in backpacker hangouts all over the world. Somehow a night up Lestoh taaarn, surrounded by pathetically aggressive, pink shirted closet homosexuals and listening to DJ Dickhead trainwreck his way through dem electro 'owse bangers toofousundunelevun through speakers worth £5.99 doesn't seem too appealing. The idea of going to one of those chain bars or clubs fills me with the kind of dread usually reserved for death. If that's your idea of a social life then you can keep it. I think I'll keep my £40 and put it towards something that's actually fun, and if that means having to put if with people thinking im boring, then so be it. Now I might go out more often, if only a bar existed where I could choose the music and the volume; where i could wear whatever the hell i wanted; where the boy:non-diseased girl ratio was favourable; where i was allowed to bring my own drink; where i could chill on nice comfortable seats; and where if i wanted to sit in the corner and read a book instead of getting wasted people wouldn't stare at me like i'm a complete freak. If that place existed, I'd spend lots of time there. Luckily, it does. I call it home.
