AoWW Posted 5 May 2011 Posted 5 May 2011 I've realised reading this thread how old I feel... because going out and getting pissed just seems like too much effort and hassle nowadays. *Far better to stay at home and get pissed*
Jackirius Posted 5 May 2011 Posted 5 May 2011 Things just seem better when you've had a few beers down you.
FoxyPV Posted 5 May 2011 Posted 5 May 2011 i drink because I like the taste of it (a bit too much unfortunately). I go off it every year for during championship so I can live without it. Alcohol more than any other drug is used as a social lubricant and puts people at ease in these scenarios.
Samilktray Posted 5 May 2011 Posted 5 May 2011 I just drink to go out n dance like a prick. Then I fuck fine ass big booty bitches and eat a dirty kebab.
Haydos Posted 5 May 2011 Posted 5 May 2011 I drink because it's fooking fun. Also, being sober when everyone else is smashed is baaawls. Beer is wonderful and the feeling that goes with it is even better so I'm not sure what the problem is. I rarely do anything stupid, I've never got in a fight whilst drunk so it's all good IMO.
Fox You Forest Posted 5 May 2011 Posted 5 May 2011 I just drink to go out n dance like a prick. Then I fuck fine ass big booty bitches and eat a dirty kebab. I though I was on This Is Your Life then for a minute.
AdamN Posted 5 May 2011 Posted 5 May 2011 There are plenty of ways I have fun without getting liqueured up but I also love getting on the booze to relax me, lower my inhibitions, give me a bit of extra faux-confidence and just generally large it up. Spot on. There is literally nothing worse than being the only sober person in a crowd of drunks. Once again, spot on!
cambridgefox Posted 5 May 2011 Posted 5 May 2011 i used to have (15 odd years ago) 8 pints probably each friday, saturday and Sunday. This would probably put me in hospital these days and do i suffer with a hangover whereas those days i was fine. My 40th today and got a heavy weekend in Norfolk,im slightly concerned about the amount i will drink and already fearing the hangover!
Tom17LCFC Posted 5 May 2011 Posted 5 May 2011 I think as well the amount of ridiculous offers on weeknights for drinks play a part in tempting people. It's like people have already said, there's nothing worse than being sober in a crowd of drunks as sad as that is. I do know quite a few people that hate alcohol, but only drink it to get drunk or to feel 'one of the crowd'. Pretty sad that...
Ozwin Posted 5 May 2011 Posted 5 May 2011 Anyone who's ever been in a club sober knows why people drink.

davieG Posted 6 May 2011 Posted 6 May 2011
Ok, had been thinking about a topic such as this for a little while, having seen the current discussion on drink driving, i decided to ask the question.

I am not trying to be holier than thou, or sneer at people who do it, I certainly have my own vices and i have no right or want to judge..i would like to try to understand the thought processes.

It may be that im old now (late 40's) and suffering from "The good old days" syndrome. But i get the feeling that getting drunk is now considered "the norm". From what i read on here as well as in general, every weekend is spent getting as much grog down your throat as possible whilst remaining standing and then going to see the football or to a club or just "out".

I wonder what it is about getting drunk that makes it so appealing?

Interested to hear peoples thoughts.

*apologies for sounding like such and old coont.

I asked a similar question a few years back. http://www.foxestalk.co.uk/forums/index.php?app=core&module=search§ion=search&do=search&fromsearch=1 Congratulations you've joined the 'old coont's' club
Dickie Greenleaf Posted 6 May 2011 Posted 6 May 2011 I just like to drink it. I drink it 'cause it tastes nice. I don't really drink to get smashed, sometimes I'll drink too much or whatever, but I don't go out thinking "I want to come home and not know how I got there." This. I love a drink, but I don't ever go out thinking 'right I'm going to get absolutely shit faced'. That's just a by-product sometimes
Alexikokopops Posted 6 May 2011 Posted 6 May 2011 This. I love a drink, but I don't ever go out thinking 'right I'm going to get absolutely shit faced'. That's just a by-product sometimes Same here. Except for one five day holiday a year where I pretend I'm a student again
MikeyT Posted 6 May 2011 Posted 6 May 2011 Wouldn't bother me if i never had alcohol ever again. I've never been bothered about drinking and can't stand the feeling of being drunk. Headache, feeling sick, dizzy, disorientated and all you more than likely do is vomit it all back up anyway or go for a million pisses and get rid of it that way. On the other hand if people want to get drunk that's cool. Each to their own. Just doesn't bother me in the slightest.
MikeyT Posted 6 May 2011 Posted 6 May 2011 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2N0gplpNXxs The guy in the hat looks like he could have been a member of The Village People.
Babylon Posted 6 May 2011 Posted 6 May 2011 Just don't understand people who constantly go out with the sole aim of getting bladdered. I use to go out to have a laugh with my mates and pull girls, getting bladdered was just the side effect of socialising, not the aim. Although that does seem to have changed with the younger generation listening to them speak.
BrummieFOX Posted 6 May 2011 Posted 6 May 2011 I use to go out to have a laugh with my mates and pull girls, getting bladdered was just the side effect of socialising, not the aim. Although that does seem to have changed with the younger generation listening to them speak. Exactly how I feel. The social aspect of it is far more appealing than just 'going out to get drunk'. My aim is to have a good night with good friends/family. I also much prefer an all day slow session on real ale rather than a 4-hour binge in a club playing shite music.
Trav Le Bleu Posted 6 May 2011 Posted 6 May 2011 I've been properly drunk twice and I can't remember either night (and in fairness, the first time I was "drinking to forget" - it works... except that it's just the drinking part you forget, not the thing that made you start drinking ) The second was my stag night. I'm really not comfortable with not remembering what I've done - bit of a control freak dontchaknow! So now I rarely have more than a couple and never more than 3 or 4. It's certainly not necessary.
Babylon Posted 6 May 2011 Posted 6 May 2011 I also much prefer an all day slow session on real ale rather than a 4-hour binge in a club playing shite music. Sunday all dayers are the new Saturday nights.
Babylon Posted 6 May 2011 Posted 6 May 2011 I'm really not comfortable with not remembering what I've done That's my biggest problem, people will say I was absolutely fine, knew exactly what I was doing and wasn't pissed at all... but often I can't remember a thing past about 5/6 pints. I just put it down to how my body handles the alcohol. I'm not a stupid drunk, Ive never staggered around not knowing what I'm doing (well maybe twice), but my mind just blanks out a bit.
The Padster Posted 6 May 2011 Posted 6 May 2011 I'm with the general consesus of it being a social thing. I find nothing better than going out on a Friday/Saturday evening with the lads to shoot the shit, take the piss and just have a laugh. If by the end of the night I have drunk a bit too much then so be it. Saying that, the worst I got was at my mates wedding last year doing 'social' drinking. At several points I had a snifter of Jamesons, a pint and a glass of wine all on the go, next thing I know I'm being helped in my front door by the night porter.
