gary o'neil the past u19, present u20 and has been told future u21 england captain will be allowed to leave pompey on a year long loan to the foxes.

this WILL happen when arry finally gets his 2/3 players over the next 14 days.

gary is a special talent and has already played on the big stage 3 times last year scoring 4 goals for the 1st team including a brace and man of the match performance against leeds.

he is an exciting midfield talent.

west ham have also registered interest but arry will not want to deal with the hammers unless the carrick issue is resolved.

you could be getting a very good loan deal and it won't cost the earth.

sounds good

That would be fantastic news if it was true - A very talented central midfield player that would add some steel in there. Always impressed me when I've seen him play.

Great player, seems odd that we would sign another central midfielder though? I can't see why Pompey don't play him, he scored 2 against Leeds last season and looked shit hot.

Where will he play though? Surely Williams, Nalis and Gudjonsson would be ahead of him?

Hopefully he can play on the left :P

Is this a prelude to a 3-5-2 formation ?

Decent player he is whenever i've seen him play. Surely he cant be bringing him in to play central midfield though? We got 3 players good enough for that position and 1 shit one. Best be right sided but i think he's left sided..

POMPEY will let England's new under-21 skipper go on loan this season – if they can sign a replacement.

Angelos Basinas could take Gary O'Neil's place with Pompey considering an increased £3m bid for the Greece skipper.

Two first-division clubs – one thought to be Leicester – are keen on O'Neil, who will captain England against Ukraine at the Riverside tonight.

Harry Redknapp believes the experience of regular first-team football will do the midfielder good.

But first Redknapp needs to sign another midfielder.

O'Neil had to be content with a place on the bench in Pompey's 1-1 draw with Birmingham on Saturday.

His last Pompey season was dogged by injury but shot through with brilliance.

The 21-year-old made three Premiership starts, but scored twice in a 6-1 win over Leeds in November.

Redknapp said: ‘There's no way I could let Gary go on loan at the moment. I haven't got enough players.

‘But if we get someone in, it's something we could do. I think it would do him good.'

O'Neil has captained England's under-19 and under-20 sides – and will skipper the under-21s on his debut at that level.

Peter Taylor, in charge of the under-21 side, said: ‘Gary has experience of being the captain at different levels. I spoke to the staff about him and they say he is someone who can handle the job well.'

Will be part of the Carrick deal, I bet

I'll have a tenner that Carrick goes to Pompey and West Ham get O'Neil on loan for the season.

On Total Club Manager it lists him as LM and CM so that sounds like it would be a good signing.

But seeing as it says he'll be allowed to leave if Pompey get the 2/3 players they are after, then it's highly unlikely since Portsmouth have missed out on every player they've tried to sign this summer

I just heard Redknapp on 5live and he said he has about 15 fit players, maximum, at the moment. So I would be very suprised if he let a decent player go out on loan...

Is this the player that scored that cracker at the walkers stadium when we drew 1-1 last time we were in div 1?

Only managed to catch the last 15 minutes of the England U21's who won 3-1 tonight - O'Neil looked good on the ball and got stuck in. Played centre midfield with Reo Coker.
