Cruss5 Posted 12 June 2011 Posted 12 June 2011 Hello All On June 21st i'm doing a charity cycle ride from Leicester to the Isle of Wight. I'm doing this on my own and all on the one day. Raising money for the LRi Neo-Natal unit. All this is in memory of my son who lived 8 precious months on the ward. If anybody would like to give some money i would be very appreciative, thanks for reading. Carl www.justgiving.com/cycletowight

They kept me alive when i was born in an incubator for a week. Wasn't looking good for me. All the best with the ride. You'll certainly be getting a contribution from me within the next few days. Good luck.
MikeyT Posted 12 June 2011 Posted 12 June 2011 I've just tweeted this as well, so hopefully you'll get even more donations.

Appreciate you mentioning it again on facebook though. The whole ride is just short of 160 miles, its 145 miles to southampton then the ferry crossing before a 13 mile trip to my destination in newport. I reckon the whole day should take around 15 hours, however i'm not giving myself any time as just doing it will be good enough for me. Slightly worried that i've not done enough training but i've managed to do a couple of 100 milers this month so i think on the day the adrenaline will kick in to get me through. My biggest problem will be doing all of this on my own, its very lonely getting up some hills without somebody next to me urging me on. I think the reason i'm doing it will help me on those moments. Good luck with your skeg trip, when are you doing it? If i do more rides in the future (i'm sure i will) then your more than welcome to join me. Let me know. Follow me on twitter 'cruss5' Carl

Are you biking back?

Are you biking back? Not biking back, got family down there so will stay with them for a while. I might try that bike ride one time, maybe not this time. Would love to cycle round the island on the next cycle festival.
Zed Posted 20 June 2011 Posted 20 June 2011 Being honest I don't know why, but I don't normally respond to these types of posts. However I am more than happy to donate and have done. I've done a few long rides, but never done more that 60miles. I hope all goes well.
beduffrich Posted 22 June 2011 Posted 22 June 2011 Good luck to you Carl. I'm expecting a baby in a couple of weeks and can't imagine the pain that you must've felt. I'd like to get into cycling. Maybe next time you fancy a big adventure you can advertise it and people can come along with you. I as a Coventry Fan would proudly cycle with a Leicester fan, even if you wore the shirt.

Thanks very much for your kind words and the vesry best of luck with your baby. Being a parent is a fantastic feeling. Unfortunately i didn't make the whole journey, i managed just under 120 miles and my legs had given up. Not sure if it was lack of training or doing the whole journey on my own. I'm determined to give it another go maybe next year. Would be good to have a few of us doing something together. A big thanks to Dave to offering his support and apologies for not getting to do some miles with you. We will definately have to do something in the future and this time i'll know more of what to expect and what i need to do. Thanks Carl

Thanks Carl If you do decide to do it next year I would love to do it with you, I too have relatives there and go 3 or 4 times a year, I've never biked it but would love to try. Just one question, when you gave up, how did you continue to the island?

My parents were support along the way, luckily they wasn't too far away. More than welcome to join me next time
