Your favourite Leicester City Memories

Hi all,

I was just wondering what everyone's favourite memories of our beloved Leicester City are. One of the most memorable moments for me was seeing us beat Derby County at Wembley to lift the play-off championship. Quite a few years ago but nothing matched the buzz of the whole Leicester massive behind you at Wembley and those two goals Stevie (he's here, there, he's every f****g where) Walsh scored. :D

I remember a poster that came out that I had pinned up on my bedroom wall that read "The silence of the Rams" with a picture of walshy wheeling away in celebration.

Anyone else have some nice memories? B)

The first game i went to was City vs Palace, I must have been about 8-9

Was amazing when Stevie Claridge came up with the best shin roler ever

My first game when I was 7 is a good memory.

April 1988 against reading 1 - nil after Steve Walsh header...he was my hero after that, and still is for that matter!

Other than that I remember the game when we beat Oxford to stay up on the last day of the season...made all the sweeter as I had just bought a new kit with my birthday money! :D

Welcome to the site.

I always enjoy a good "Fave LCFC memories thread". Here's some of my more random ones:

Gary Coatsworth's 40-yard piledriver against Luton.

5-0 v Cambridge, play-offs 91-92.

6-1 Sheff Wed, '80s.

1-0 Man Utd, Cottee.

Muzzy against Grimsby.

3-2 Swindon '88-ish. 3 goals in the last 10 to win.

3-3 Arsenal, Bergkamp & Walsh etc.

Too many over the last 20 years for me to list in full.

I could do just as many "Bad Memories" as well.;)

thanks :)

That Swindon one is strikingly similar to the game when we played them at Wembley in the Playoff Final...1993 I think it was, we'd also lost to Blackburn 1-0 in the playoff final 1 or 2 seasons prior. Anyway, we were 3-1 down and came back with 2 goals in the final minutes of the game. The atmosphere was incredible. Then one of the Swindon players dived and they won a penalty and our dreams were robbed and shattered.

Early Memories of course seeing Claridge shin us into the Prem on Tv though as I was too young to go to games as folks didnt (and still dont) like football. When I first started going properly I remember Mancini's debut vs Arsenal, Stan Collymores goal vs Leeds, a great volley, beating Liverpool 2-0 at home after they'd won the league cup.Invading the pitch after the Spurs game at Filbo (Last league game). Derby away first away game when Sav went down for that last min peno, beautiful. Nalis's goal vs Leeds of course, The cup run this season. Its not really that bad being a City fan.

Without doubt the "Claridge final" was a joyeous day to remember but another came one Wednesday night at Filbert Street way back in the 60's.

City's side then was unquestionably the best footballing they've ever put out. Anyway on this occasion United with Law, Best, Charlton the lot quickly had a goal disallowed only for City to hit back and give the team some have described as the best ever, a 6-0 walloping.

City had McLintock, Ian King and Colin Appleton backing up the likes of Mike Stringfellow and their best ball-playing player ever in midfield maestro Davie Gibson.

Wee Davie used to give ball playing exhibitions at half-time on some occasions. He was a master craftsman personified and was so good he always seemed to finish with clean kit even on the muddiest days.

He'd catch goalkeeper's punted kicks straight out of the air and pass the ball on before it ever hit the ground. His swerved, backspun and topspun passes were absolute precision and he would always contribute his share of goals. City then were only robbed of a League and Cup double with a late run of injuries. Then were feared even by the very best.

Matches were wonderfully entertaining and I truly do not believe a single member of todays squad (much as I wish em the best) would ever get a moment's consideration for a place in that side.

Oh for a return to cavalier football with hard work and attitude thrown in.

Yip has to be the 'Claridge Final' for me also. I have a framed picture of him running towards the camera with his hands on his head and a crazed expression on his face and Neil Lennon running just behind him with the cheesiest grin on his face ever. A fantastic, emotive picture.

My favourite Leicester City Memories are:

1) My first ever game which was the first game of the 97/98 season against Villa. It was Savage's debut at the club, and we won 1-0 thanks to Ian Marshalls goal!

2) Stan the Man's home debut against Sunderland where he scored a hattrick, and finished 5-2 overall. I think Heskey and Oakes scored the other goals....

4-0 v Derby. Sheepshaggers getting up to leave when the third went in, standing on the steps for 7 or 8 minutes wondering whether they'd made a mistake, then Marshall sticking another one in and the place emptying.. such a beautiful sunny day too and all on SKY. Can't beat that.

At Pride Park? I was there sat in one of the Derby boxes with a handful of Leicester fans. You should have seen the derby fan's faces when they turned around to see people cheering as every goal went in in their own section haha.

Also when we played Liverpool at Anfield a few seasons back and me and me dad were sat in the Liverpool Home Section. We won 2-0 and my dad remained in his seat as the first goal went in. But when the second went in he forgot where he was and leaped into the air only to be practically shoved down in his seat very quickly by a worried and excited me with thousands of scousers all around us!!

That said though we didn't get any trouble from the Liverpool fans and a few of them were actually as nice as to say that we played well and deserved the win, which we did ;)

Great night.

Apart from the Crystal Palace and Derby play off finals, the league cup final replay and the Oxford game in which we narrowly avoided relegation to the old 3rd division, all of which have been mentioned I would add the play off semi final at home against Cambridge in, I think 1992, when we won 5-1 after the first leg draw, the 1-0 win at Fulham in I think, 1983 under Gordon Milne when a late spurt got us promotion back to the top division and possibly a game against Wolves in the mid 80's when they came over as a good side and we won 5-0 (or 5-1).

For sheer drama though it has to be the Palace play off final with Kalac brought on for the last 2 mins for the penalties only to be uneeded after all. :D Magic!

Gotta be the Athletico Madrid home match at Filbert Street under floodlights! What an atmosphere that night, loads of balloons and banners! Was a shame we got cheated out the match by the bent ref!

3-3 vs Arsenal

Palace Play Off Final

Sunderland 5-2 win - a sign of things to come if only Heskey wouldnt have left and O'Neill in the summer.

Beating the Sheep at Wembley in the Play offs!

Yep I went to this game too, I sat in the kop aswell - not a very happy place at the time! Cottee's goal was brilliant as was Izzets (Ithink they were the scorers?!) We dented their hopes of champs league so they werent very happy afterwards. Also I think it was heskeys first game against us after his move

I'm pretty sure Cottee netted one and can vaguely visualise it now, if I remember correctly he was on the edge of the area and hit it pretty nice, it was a clean goal I think... was probably Muzzy for the second yeah... and I think you're right about it being Emile's first game against us after his move.
