Jonezy Posted 5 July 2011 Posted 5 July 2011 Awesome finish today! Congrats to Evans and all the Aussies around here! It was like a mountain stage cooked down to a few minutes. Big kudos to the crazy Norwegian Hushovd - How did he keep with the front, when even Andy Schleck had to let go? Its going to be a long wait for the mountains now...
SOCCERROO FOX Posted 5 July 2011 Posted 5 July 2011 Thought Cadel's chances were stuffed when he had to go to the team car twice. The win was even sweetier given the fact Contador celebrated prematurely
Jonezy Posted 6 July 2011 Posted 6 July 2011 I don't think Contador was celebrating. More like 'I did win didn't I...?... Aaaaargh crap, crap, crap...' - moment. Didn't know Evans had so a punch in him - nicely done. Still amazed by Hushovd fight to keep the yellow jersey. Should be a sprint today. Cavendish's time to shine surely.
Jonezy Posted 6 July 2011 Posted 6 July 2011 And Cavendish did shine. What a sprint by him. Lots of crashes today though...
SOCCERROO FOX Posted 7 July 2011 Posted 7 July 2011 A few crashes today inclusing some of th big names, good to see Cadel not crash maybe he is finding some luck that has desserted him on the big tours
Jonezy Posted 8 July 2011 Posted 8 July 2011 Disappointed with the lack of Norwegian or Norway-based users bragging in here.... Norway stealing the show at the moment. Deservedly so, what a finish by Boasson Hagen yesterday. Big jealousy from a Dane here, our 5 guys are all helpers with minor roles in the tour. Looks flat today, so all eyes must be on Cavendish surely.

Wycombe Fox Posted 8 July 2011 Posted 8 July 2011 NOOOOOOOOOOOO!! Not looking good for Bradley Wiggins - involved in a big pile-up.
shen Posted 8 July 2011 Posted 8 July 2011 NOOOOOOOOOOOO!! Not looking good for Bradley Wiggins - involved in a big pile-up. And Horner looks badly shaken too. Terrible luck for Wiggins and what a dreadful Tour so far with all these crashes
Jonezy Posted 8 July 2011 Posted 8 July 2011 And Horner looks badly shaken too. Terrible luck for Wiggins and what a dreadful Tour so far with all these crashes Agreed. Lots of big names involved too.
New England Fox Posted 8 July 2011 Posted 8 July 2011 Horrible luck for Wiggins, really expected him to challenge for the podium this year
New England Fox Posted 8 July 2011 Posted 8 July 2011 Sad day for Wiggins and also Chris Horner, both podium hopefuls having to abandon after crashes today. Its sad to see so many crashes having so much of an effect on the race this year. We haven't even got to the mountains yet but pretty much all the main contenders, with the exception of the Schlecks and Evans, have lost time due to crashes. If this carries on it will me more a case of who can avoid the crashes rather than who is the best rider. Oh and of course I had both Wiggins and Horner in my fantasy team

Oh and of course I had both Wiggins and Horner in my fantasy team Staying out of crashes isn't just luck, yet that being said, the pack looks decidedly more nervous this year. And it's all going hyperbole with every new crash. I saw a post-race interview with Goss (I think) who basically blamed the GC riders of hysterically trying to get to the front of the pack at the end of stages when the sprinter teams are pushing as well leading to way too much congestion. Apart from the big losers today, I also have a lot of sympathy for Leipheimer. How rotten can your luck get when you puncture two days in a row just outside the 3km threshold? He's already over four minutes off the pace before the race has even begun for real... Shame as well considering he looked sharp up to the start of the TDF
New England Fox Posted 9 July 2011 Posted 9 July 2011 I just watched a couple of videos of Chris Horner post-stage. The first was as he crossed the line and was talking to a team helper and went along the lines of Horner saying "Did I crash? When did I crash? What happened?" The second was as he was being put on a stretcher and taken to hospital and he was asking the doctor "Are we going to the hospital? Did I finish the stage? Was I riding?" The guy didn't have a clue where he was, didn't even remember crashing or finishing the stage. How the doctors let him get back on his bike I don't know and how he managed to finish the stage is an even bigger mystery.

Jonezy Posted 9 July 2011 Posted 9 July 2011 Man, that video of Horner is really scary. WTF are they doing, letting him ride in a condition like that? The Tour really has been affected negatively by all these crashes. I think its like a downward spiral, for every crash, the peloton gets more nervous and everyone wants to sit in front, but everyone cannot sit in the front, so dangerous situations appears. It didn't really help, that the biggest favorite for the GC lost over a minute on the first stage, showing how much you could lose, if you get caught behind a crash. Interesting stage today in the Massif Central area. Hard to predict, but maybe a Thomas Voeckler win after a long break-away?
New England Fox Posted 10 July 2011 Posted 10 July 2011 Another day, another bad crash for contenders. This time Vinokourov and Van den Brooke have abandoned after a nasty looking crash. It really is an unbelievable tour for crashes.

Prediction looking good so far Another day, another bad crash for contenders. This time Vinokourov and Van den Brooke have abandoned after a nasty looking crash. It really is an unbelievable tour for crashes. It is getting quite extreme and almost farcical now. No disrespect to the other participants, but it really detracts from the race when GC riders quit this way. Also sad to see Vino end his final Tour this way. I'm glad he showed a bit of his old self yesterday despite not pulling it off. That's him, Wiggins, Horner, van den Broeck out and Contador, Leipheimer, Gesink, Kreuziger and Sanchez that have all lost time before the race has really started.
shen Posted 10 July 2011 Posted 10 July 2011 What the... ?!?! now the riders are just getting mowed down by cars! What the hell was the driver thinking?? Sørensen crashing the other day because of a careless motorbike and Karpets was it that crashed into a stupid spectator creating that huge crash on the first stage... I don't think the Tour has ever seen this many crashes or reckless situations as this year
Narborough_fox Posted 10 July 2011 Posted 10 July 2011 I've got a Europcar t-shirt. Come on whoever rides for them.
New England Fox Posted 10 July 2011 Posted 10 July 2011 Predicting voeckler to win in a breakaway is hardly an inspired pick . Not to mention you predicted it for yesterday not today.
New England Fox Posted 10 July 2011 Posted 10 July 2011 Holy shit!!!!! Just saw the crash on the breakaway (I'm on a slight delay) what he hell is that car driver thinking? Could have killed someone easily. Poor hoogeland worked so hard to get the KOM jersey and by the looks of that crash it seems he will be out of the race.
