ah , but will it act as a deterrent ?

I don't know. Flynners, does the prospect of a royal sporking terrify you into innocence?

We need to find the person/people responsible for this state of affairs.

Find them and kill them.

I thought Chandler/Radovan's Caravan knew the answer to this one.

Hmmm? What would Jesus do?

We'll find out in 5-20 years cos he's coming back. When that ufo fleet arrives I'll be putting my 'Welcome Back Brother' flag on my chimney :S:D

Yes. Knew I could get homosexuallity, pedophillia and blasphemy into this.

It's not Blasphemy cos Jesus isn't God :D

bit like the fellow who was killed for saying 'let him have it' when a criminal collegue was asked to give a police man a gun? that statement could be taken more than one way, but he was still killed, and as the executioner i doubt you'd have much say in whether the crime was proved beyond reasonable doubt or not.

i've not committed a capital crime (to my knowledge ;) ), am i allowed to disagree with the countries who have it? if, maybe, i'm duped into one (somehow) would i lose my right to disagree with a county's death penalty?

I did in my original post clarify the duped part and said or implied if the crime was committed knowingly or without duress. Ignorance of the law is not an excuse here, unless you're an MP so I don't see why it should be the case if you're in another country.

And yes everyone's entitled to disagree but I think it's a tad late after a crime's been committed.

i did say duped into a crime, because i'm unlikely (as things stand) to commit one of my own accord.

if i were to be put on death row for something, then how would anyone, who doesn't know me, know my feelings towards the death penalty pre-trial?

miriam and peter mail-reader, will only know that i'm moaning about the death penalty after i've been convicted, they won't know i've been anti-death penalty my entire life (since i've been aware of it).

maybe i should start a blog or something.....?

Is it a deterrant? No. If someone intends to take the life of a fellow human being I doubt the thought of a dangling noose (if they get caught) is going to put them off the act of murder.

Does it punish the offender? Yes obviously, although some may say that spending the rest of one's natural life without freedom is far more of a punishment (if the law was applied that way and our prisons weren't so cushy), rather than the quick fix that instant death via execution brings.

In the cases of a miscarriage of justice, those unfortunately wrongfully convicted will hardly be delighted with having their conviciton quashed if they're already six feet under in a coffin because they've already been executed at this point.

Is it state endorsed murder? Yes.

If it were ever brought back, I'd emigrate. Life imprisonment should mean life, but petty "eye for an eye" style justice is not the way for a civilised society to punish even its most evil criminals.
