"But the system we are going to start with is the system we have used most of the time this season and last. "It normally works very well for us." It's all about flexibility I'm surprised so many haven't worked this out yet It's the same with going on about players not happy about not being in the team, of course they aren't but they're paid well for it. Doesn't nearly every PL team have a squad of 25 players, they seem to mange it ok.

And this,...more sense from DavieG,....alot of fans havent realised that the 2 wide men in a 4-3-3 are both the extra attackers and the wide 'midfielders' that drop into the 4-5-1 when not attacking,..it isnt actually rocket science.
Rustyfox Posted 1 August 2011 Posted 1 August 2011 4-3-3/ 4-5-1 definitely offers a lot of flexibility, but looking at Sven's starting team from Sat it was set out not to concede. Abe was playing behind Danns & Wellens to cut out anything that got through & also build play from the back. Vassell & Gally also seemed to be sitting quite deep when Madrid had the ball at the back. -This can easily be changed though by having somone like Danns play in front of 2 midfielders & i personally think we should have done this to pressure Alonso when he came on. Pushing the wide players closer to the full-backs would've also restricted Madrid's ability to play through Alonso. In midfield we'll have a ton of options once everyone is fit, so that doesnt really worry me As for the front 3 (or 1), i def think we need to get in players that suit the formation. Vassell works best in a front 2 - out wide he seems to run into dead ends & isnt good enough at the defensive side of things. Gally is prob best suited in a free-role behind to central striker.

And a solid back four with paul, sol, matt, john/pelts, what people think?

This I kind of agree with, if you are playing 3 up front with wrong footted wide players it doesn't really work they have to be able to switch wings (and not just once if you to get some luck you have to show the defending team differant options all through the game) at least then they maybe dont have to cut back infield on there prefered foot all the time into traffic for a cross and hope they fullbacks overlap i'd have like to have seen Dyer and Gally at least take on defenders deep to the byline and get a decent cross into the area, also with lloyd on the left with the freedom to run from Kasper's realeases when he's looking for a quick ball.
