in a sort of related matter bayern munich just lost 1-0 to muchengladback(thats my attempt at spelling it) at home in their opening game of the season. their fans didnt boo and they are one of the favourites for the title. i dont get why they boo on the first game of the season.

because a lot of their fans are ******

That new French striker of Cardiff's looked a handful at times. I rate that Adam Matthews as well. Good game. West Ham probably would've won if Carew was on the side with Cole.

He plays for Celtic now.

Here's what I posted on thisisleicestershire.co.uk. I'm sick to death of everyone in the media - particularly the papers and in particular there the Mirror, shunning us and backing West Ham.

There's a key difference between us and the Hammers. We have signed a crew of players with Championship experience and a hunger to do well. Our striker situation is weaker than theirs, but in the likes of a new addition, plus strikers like Nugent and Vassell I think we are going to see a few goals - at least when the latter manages to stay on the pitch for more than ten minutes!

West Ham came down, held on to a crew of players who barely have 2 physical championship caps to rub between them and have been "sussed out." Carlton Cole was the only striker for the Hammers who looked threatening yesterday - but he will probably up sticks and join a premier league club.

If their team of premiership players is so great, why did their side come bottom of the premiership pile, after conceding far too many and scoring far too few goals?

Kevin Nolan summed up the ignorance of West Ham when he described his side as "deserving to be in the Premier League" last week. No, you don't. Your side messed up and deserve to be in this league. Get used to it.

The same goes to the media and in particular the BBC. Sorry, Match Of The Day, your beloved Scott Parker isn't there to play brilliantly in a sinking ship any more. He's busy being ineffective against the bluebirds.

We championship fans know that our league is much better than Premier League fans think. There are 10+ sides in the second tier that could compete in the Premiership with relative comfort. Our teams also lack the snobbish sense of entitlement that has plagued the highest level for years now. Middlesborough came down in the same position as West Ham are now, expected promotion and look where they ended up - they are only just recovering now.

The underestimation and contempt their ignorant fans and players have showed to the second tier is backfiring already. Well done Cardiff, now lets see West Ham crash and burn.

It would be hilarious if their opening fixture at the Olympic Stadium was against Leyton Orient in League 1, given the row between the clubs.”

Your faith in Vassell's goalscoring prowess is touching - but is hardly backed by his record to date with us, or indeed throughout his career.

Allardyce's purchase of Kevin Nolan and Matt Taylor (both Championship winners) is outstanding business. Plenty of Premier clubs would have loved to sign either of those players, who have proved their quality at the highest level over many years

Yes, they slipped up yesterday, but early season fixtures often throw up a few shocks - look at Derby's win over Birmingham or Watford's win at Norwich last season.

If the Championship really is as strong as you claim, why are the three promoted clubs among the favourites for relegation?. There is a widening gulf in quality between the leagues and it is widening year on year. It does you no favours to deny this.

West Ham's status as titled contenders shouldn't be dismissed on the basis of just one game.

It's not based on one game - it's based on their ridiculous attitude towards the championship.

The superiority complex displayed by their fans and to an extent by their players wreaks of the likes of Middlesborough and historically, Leeds, Forest and Sheffield Wednesday. Spend anything more than two season in the premier league and suddenly you're too big for the lower leagues? Jog on. What makes it funnier is that West Ham are by no means a "big club." I fully expect Birmingham City and Blackpool to do alright this term even after losing some key players, simply because they are more aware of the challenges the Championship presents. Brum lost yesterday, yes, but their performance was battling - unlike the lax show I saw at Upton Park yesterday with Big Sam's predictable, direct approach there for all to see.

I could say the same about our fans when we went down to league one, but fortunately for us Pearson assembled a squad of hungry players who wanted success - not flair players of the likes of Barrera who have very little experience of the physical side of the game that is absent from much of the Premier League.

The side I watched yesterday were not fit for the playoffs, let alone automatic promotion.

Scott Parker was nothing special. Nor was Kevin Nolan. I'm particuarly annoyed at the latter as he's captaining my dream team!

Yesterday's result was destined to happen the moment every media outlet in Britain decided it was West Ham's god given right to walk the league. <_<

I'm not saying theres not a class difference between the Prem and Championship - just that a team relegated bottom of the Prem, behind the likes of Wigan, Blackburn and Blackpool being proclaimed as the strongest in the league based on two marquee signings that offered little yesterday is downright ridiculous. :o

The bottom line is, this division is much harder to get out of than people think, unless you're heading for League One that is. Even the so called weaker teams like Doncaster, Barnsley and Peterborough are criminally underrated and can punish you if you let your guard down. All I gathered from yesterday was that, as I predicted, West Ham don't deal well with physical football - put simply, "they don't like it up 'em!"

And on the Vassell situation - Vassell's lack of goals is due to him continually being played out of position on the wide right. He's a central striker by trade, and has scored goals for Leicester there - most memorably that quality strike against Hull last year. He's too easily pushed out wide when playing on the wing, but down the centre he can turn defences inside out when on his game. That said, I know he's been far from prolific in his career - but as they say, goals breed confidence. He still has the quality to potentially bag 20 goals a season - he just needs the delivery and to keep his head screwed on straight! :scarf:
