Formation and out of position players

We have been struggling with our shape for some time, Mills apart the back 5 is looking pretty solid, I think Mills is suffering badly from missing much of pre-season but that is not our biggest problem.

For me this is still the midfied, too many players doing the same job, some asked to play totally alien roles, I simply can not see how we are getting it so wrong.....:dunno:

Danns as a wide man, hopeless, Wellens as the holding player, nonsense, King as attacking midfield, just plain wrong! No point wharsoever playing Abe and Fernandez in the same side, simply a waste of a player.

Sort this out or we are going nowhere....

I noticed you wrote earlier that this problem has been here for two years.

Is the problem players who has been here two years or more?

According to OS

9 midfielders on the books. 7 of them are out & out central midfielders, 1 is Moussa who can play on the right, but isn't really a wideman and the 9th is Dyer, a genuine wideman, it's not the most varied pool of players to draw on

This is the problem! Whats with getting a winger in? We still need a right midfielder.

I know Moussa and Danns can play out wide but this isn't there natural position. Obviously Vassell is the main winger (best winger) but when he is out, Dyer should be in even if I don't rate him highly because he comes inside far to often to indicate that he is a genuine winger and threat.

Gallagher has about as much pace as a snail and cannot beat players, so I'd be going for a right winger if I was Sven and not be building a formation around our 7 central midfielders because most of them cannot play at once like we saw yesterday.

Signing a winger really must, and I'm amazed we didnt really sign one during pre season. Regardless of 4-3-3 or 4-4-2 we have no natural sided players apart from Dyer who crazily doesnt get a look in for some reason. Gallagher is decent on the win, but decent at best and we need better in order to progress.

Vassell isnt a winger either really, but has been put on the wing ever since Yak joined in January. Vassell's best games for us came down the middle where he should be used now.

With us now having a 'target man' style player in Nugent, I think we should be looking to play 4-4-2 but this cant be done until real wingers are brought. 4-3-3 is almost something that gets used just to accomodate Vassell/Gallagher/Danns. I'd liek to see Vassell up front with Nugent, he at least deserves the chance to play as a striker again.

I don't get your point about teams wanting promotion need to win 7 out of the first 10 games, to the best of my knowledge, we've only played 2, and could quite possibly win 6 of the next 8. Isn't it a little premature to get on the doom and gloom wagon? Or did you expect us to have secured promotion by the end of september?
