accessory Posted 19 August 2011 Posted 19 August 2011 Vassell is generally under valued at the club, and I felt he was our most consistant player last season. Remember, wide left isn't his natural position, centre forward is which is where he was when he scored a goal against Doncaster Rovers. I cannot belive you say Vassell is 'useless' and then you want Gallagher in instead who can't beat any player. Vassell's goalscoring record for City is actually worse than Elvis Hammond's, in a supposedly far superior team. I goal every 8 games is nowhere near enough for a striker.
foxes2011 Posted 19 August 2011 Posted 19 August 2011 martin waghorn and schluup are very young and have potential to get better, maybe loans would be beneficial or they could stay here and play a few games here and there. i agree with someone higher in this forum that mentioned vassel scoring rate, which is quite poor but we have to remember sven likes to play him as a winger. I would like to see another forward come in someone like bradley wright phillips from charlton, but we may have left it late know and may have to make do with what we have. i recon nugent will end up on his own with strike wingers but if not vassel, nugent or schluup may work, but tbh i dont like this 4-3-3 he keeps playing with, there isnt any width.
EverybodyDannsNow Posted 20 August 2011 Posted 20 August 2011 I completely agree. I wasnt expecting Nugent to be this good if im honest, his workrate is second to none and he has already shown his potential with goals and hold up play ect. 4-4-2 is definately our best formation and if we can get a good striker alongside Nugent then this striker issue would be sorted, untill we get an injury but thats another story. Vassell played that role today and he did well i thought, worked hard. If we can get him firing on all sylinders then i think it could well be Nugent and Vassell, for now at least. What im saying is that we do have attacking qualities but we maybe just need more depth up there. Take all the positives you can from today, we are almost there. Once we get that first win i honestly think we will be hard to stop, starting against Southampton. It may seem all doom and gloom for the moment at least but lets get behind the lads, they all played a blinder today and more than deserved 3 points. Were going to do it this season if we stick with the lads and not kick them when they're down. COYB
somebum Posted 20 August 2011 Posted 20 August 2011 The problem is that when Heskey plays, the play is too one dimensional. Its a relic of a tactic anyway.

There are a LOT of positives to take from today's match. Formation sorted, selection was good, players starting to settle, great team performance first half, most players on good form and performances improving game by game since Reading. If we can carry on improving at this rate, some poor bastard team is in for a proper hammering pretty soon, I reckon.
Wherethefoxhat? Posted 21 August 2011 Author Posted 21 August 2011 Neither Nugent or Vassell are natural goalscorers. I didn't really understand why Sven signed Nugent to be honest as he has always come across to me as a Gallagher type player and we already have Gallagher so why do we need another? My guess is by October he wont be starting.
