absolutelegend Posted 13 September 2011 Author Posted 13 September 2011 Sod Times Square. Get over to this place. Would normally agree, but has to be central Manhattan for a reason I'm afraid. The reason I'm after recommendations around there is because i normally find the food in that area not the best - hence trying to buck the trend. That River Cafe looks excellent though - def one to take the mrs to impress her! Might try that another night.

Fox92 Posted 13 September 2011 Posted 13 September 2011 Preferably withing walking distance / short taxi ride of Times Square Are you visiting New York or do you live there? Whats it actually like? All fast flowing like everyone says or is it laid back? Out of every place in the World, I want to visit New York and see where the Twin Towers stood (wish I'd seen them for real), where John Lennon got shot, his Strawberry Fields memorial in Central Park, Empire State Building etc. Does it have the greatest sky line in the World? I think so.

If you are talking of a city skyline, then stand on Westminster Bride, on a clear day, as the sun rises in the early summer.
Guest MattP Posted 13 September 2011 Posted 13 September 2011 Sparks steak house. http://sparkssteakhouse.com/ Wonderful history as well as you walk through the entrance where Paul Castellano was shot on the orders of John Gotti in 1985.
Head Honcho Posted 13 September 2011 Posted 13 September 2011 Look no further a block or two from Times Square and over 30 restaurants and bars. I've stayed in Hell's Kitchen a few times and this street was always my first port of call. Restaurant Row W 46th St Also try Grand Central Oyster Bar & Restaurant for amazing seafood especially ahem!......Oysters

FoxesAreBlue Posted 15 September 2011 Posted 15 September 2011 I know it's a chain but the olive garden in times square was nice, book a few days in advance though
Maybes Posted 15 September 2011 Posted 15 September 2011 Angelo's in Little Italy - Mulberry St Unbelievable food. One of the best italians around. Not cheap, but you get what you pay for.
Durnerz Posted 15 September 2011 Posted 15 September 2011 Try Lombardi's in between Soho and Little Italy. Coal-fire pizza, very nice place.
Vacamion Posted 16 September 2011 Posted 16 September 2011 Lindy's on 7th Ave under the Pennsylvania Hotel does the best hot pastrami sandwiches.
