We need another Taggart Posted 22 June 2005 Posted 22 June 2005 I may be 'jumping the gun' here or i may have missed some stuff but im slightly concerned by the lack of strikers linked with the club - ones that realistically will join - i know that does not neccessarily mean that we wont sign one or two but with tommy wright seemingly off and morris running up the biggest NHS bill since darren anderton then im getting concerned about the lack of fire power .... surely CL doesnt expect us to get cope with just MDV and connolly? does he? I'm very happy with the signings so far, and despite alot of negative talk i think we have at least a a chance of play-offs next season. Up the Foxes
hinds12 Posted 22 June 2005 Posted 22 June 2005 i agree regarding concern for the lack of links, however i would be very surprised if cl made less than two quality signings in the form of strikers.
Hazza Posted 22 June 2005 Posted 22 June 2005 I wouldn't be too concerned, it's only June afterall. It's pretty certain that Craig Levein will get at least 1 forward in if i remember rightly, and i don't begrudge him for taking his time to (hopefully) find the right one. If we've not got even 1 in by say August 1st then i'll be a bit worried.
Hitesh Posted 22 June 2005 Posted 22 June 2005 Definitly agree but as Hazza said, its only June and there is still a while till season starts. I know that its good to hav players before pre-season but contract talks can be long sometimes. Recent press has said Mads Timm is coming to Leicester, not sure how true these are but if he is like anything he is on FM/Champ Man then he is a good buy. Personally, i have never seen him play so who knows. I said in another topic that David Connelly is a good striker but he needs a partner who can play the ball on to him. Someone like Heskey or even Scowy. Shame that we let him but then again he was on Premiership wages. So yes we do need a striker but i reckon Levein has it covered and even Dion said after he signed the contract that he thinks the targets CL is going for are promising. So lets not panic just yet, panic if we dont have anyone by August!
Gené and Tonic Posted 22 June 2005 Posted 22 June 2005 Yeah well, we weren't linked to Scott Robertson, and the bid came right out of the blue. He'll get someone, and he'd better be good.
Foxes_Trust Posted 22 June 2005 Posted 22 June 2005 i agree regarding concern for the lack of links, however i would be very surprised if cl made less than two quality signings in the form of strikers. 126224 Our understanding is the target is still 2 central defenders & 1 striker

Personally I think Levein will only buy another backup striker - after all he has spent a fair bit of money on De Vries and will want to see some return on that. Remember the proclamations Levein made about MDV when he signed, about how he'll score a bagful of goals in this division and how great he is? Well I'm not going to slate MDV but Levein will not want De Vries to flop, even if it is for selfish reasons, so expect De Vries to be our no.1 striker whether you like it or not.

I think we need a striker in the form of danny webber if he was going to keep De Vries on cos webber is a ball greedy goal scorer.... the less de vries on the ball (from what i seen last season) the better... I think david james is the same sort of stiker de vries is
Ric Flair Posted 23 June 2005 Posted 23 June 2005 Our track record of signings under Levein show that over half of them have been players that we hadn't been linked with before we signed them. Hughes, McCarthy, Kenton and Moore were all signed out of the blue and I think this will be the case with the striker we sign. It appears we might have missed out on some of our original targets, which happens. As previously said, we don't want to rush in to signing players. We need to make sure they are the right player for us, if that means we have to wait until the end of July for the right player then so be it. It's frustrating, but we've been stung too many times when it comes to rushing in to signings.
Fox in a Box Posted 23 June 2005 Posted 23 June 2005 CL is doing all the correct things are far as I can see, the quality relates to the budget and so on. We stand a good chance of top 6 and hopefully better. He signed unknowns or fringe players rather than opting for the Micky Adams I must by everyone who people will know (and they must be over 35). CL will buy what he feels we need. Jani Stum was unlucky, no doubt CL has scouts out there so lets wait and see. Anyhow, You normally find most business starts about 2/3 weeks before the season starts (football clubs tend to use a new QUALITY signing as BAIT for the 25% of fans who are unsure if they want a season ticket).
Ric Flair Posted 23 June 2005 Posted 23 June 2005 What happen to Sturm? 126423 Failed a medical, shame really.
Hitesh Posted 23 June 2005 Posted 23 June 2005 What i meant bout Scowy was how well he played when we got promoted and i was pointing out the style of player he is. Fair enough, he didnt play that well last season.

Hitesh Posted 23 June 2005 Posted 23 June 2005 Dont think so. Ipswich didnt keep him on. He might end up somewhere like Wigan or West ham because they are struggling to get players atm, especially Wigan. If not then i reckon somewhere like Leeds maybe.
Anish Posted 23 June 2005 Posted 23 June 2005 I'd be surprised and somewhat shocked if he ended up at a Premiership club or even a club as big as Leicester to be honest...
Anish Posted 23 June 2005 Posted 23 June 2005 where did u get the pics for your siggy Anish? 126763 Either the OS, here, or here.

He has shelled out on MDV and has fath in him. We will almost certainly have MDV and DC up front next season. One more will be brought in to push them all the way for competition. With Dublin also there (and preferring being up front) I doubt CL will be looking to recruit anymore strikers, especially when we have the correct blend already. Granted MDV hasnt played well for us, but his attitude has been good with training early - and if he gets a good pre season under his belt I think he may have a good signing in him. The last thing we need is more and more new faces replacing people who could make it within. This is not the MA style and CL will be looking at MDV and hoping for a big improvement.. lets just give him a chance as I think he'll do well for us. PS : Dont forget we didnt have much quality into the box from set peices until v late last season - for a striker his height we should exploit it every chance we get. Similar to when we had Muzzy, Guppy , Savage, Lennon etc taking corners and free kicks for the likes of Marshall, Elliott, Walshie... with Hughes being a regular and Williams also making the grade we could easily have the quality for our deadly set peices yet again.
dan_84 Posted 24 June 2005 Posted 24 June 2005 club call is once again linking us to Jay Bothroyd. I think it would be an excellent signing if it was possible.

Hitesh Posted 24 June 2005 Posted 24 June 2005 Madds Timm or Jay Bothroyd....havent seen either of them so i dont know what they are like. Anyone seen them play?
Jonbluefox9 Posted 24 June 2005 Posted 24 June 2005 Madds Timm or Jay Bothroyd....havent seen either of them so i dont know what they are like. Anyone seen them play? 127046 Jay Bothroyd played for England under 21s at Filbert Street a couple of years ago. He scored and if I remember rightly it was a great overhead kick. Don't hold me to that because it was a while ago. He was on Arsenal's books but he was released after kicking up a fuss for being substituted in a Youth Cup game. I think he threw his shirt on the ground and walked straight off the pitch down the tunnel. Coventry signed him either the season before or after they were relegated. When his contract ran out he moved to Italy to play for Siena where he scored a couple and settled in well but seemed to slip out of favour and ended last season on loan at Blackburn. I would say he's got lots of potential but he needs to work on his goalscoring because I can't remember him scoring bags of goals anywhere.

Wasnt he at Perugia? He has bags of potential, but at the same time a hot head and thats why he hasnt done so well i would of thought. He hasnt really been at a club any longer than 2 years. Madd Timms was thought to be the next big thing at Man U when he was in the reserves, but again a hot head that needs keeping on the straight and narrow.
