Lineker's Left Foot Posted 22 October 2011 Posted 22 October 2011 Why are we basing ourselves on just one game every time and linking reactions to it??? We beat Watford 2-0 and we're world beaters, now lose 3-0 to Millwall and we're the worst team in the league. One win and one defeat doesn't destroy our season, so let's get some perspective... "We are still gelling" - I will however, be worried if we aren't there or thereabouts 'round Xmas.
buzzy Posted 22 October 2011 Posted 22 October 2011 Come on enough is enough-why the **** have we still got pricks on here backing sven-you need to get out from up his arse and see what's happening. Crap Crap Crap at last someone else who has had enough
Guest MattP Posted 22 October 2011 Posted 22 October 2011 If you want to mock me by exaggerating my points, try again. Teams like Millwall "full of free transfers". You know, less is often more. Try it the subtle way. Besides, there are still 33 regular season games left and 99 points to play for. That the best you can put forward? Sorry, Millwall spent a few 100k didn't they? Henderson might of even been a player to look at from the Watford days.... You know the really strange thing, despite this utter incompetence of not even buying players in the right position and just flooding the squad with players and hoping, throwing cash at anyone and just throwing as much money on this project as we can we actually might make the play offs. This league is woeful. How do you actually spend 15million and become worse than what you had? Can't imagine what we would of done with a good manager who knows this league.

buzzy Posted 22 October 2011 Posted 22 October 2011 Knee Jerk Reaction. I'm not happy with some of our performances of late, but if the Mandaric regime taught us anything it's that chopping and changing the manager does not help. Me not wanting the manager out after every set-back is not a sign of me being "in Svens Arse" - just that I'm remaining levelheaded and not flying off the handle. We have played very well in some matches, and very poorly in others - that's to be expected, this is a competitive league, no-one is streets ahead of anyone else. It seems to me the man just cannot win, we keep an unchanged team and lose, we change the team and people moan about not changing a winning team. People critise the 4-3-3, he changes to 4-4-2 and people start calling for the 4-3-3 again. Do people still just hold a grudge against him for his time with England? hold no grudges about england beacause i don't give a shit about england. he has spent millions and still done **** all not even a playoff place in his time. done fa at man city and spent millions. just face the fact his a big name but as not done anything for so long he as no clue about the championship.

This league is woeful. How do you actually spend 15million and become worse than what you had? Can't imagine what we would of done with a good manager who knows this league. How did we spend £15 million again? And how many of those Millwall players have been with the club for more than one entire season? Where's that team "full of free transfers" you've mentioned? Exactly. Nowhere. And what do you mean by "not buying players in the right position"? I always thought you buy players with an already set position? Either way, your sentence doesn't make sense to me. "Flooding the squad with players" - just another picturesque exaggeration. Apart from central midfield, can't think of another area that has been (ugh) "flooded". Don't you agree depth in squad is important in such a demanding league as the Championship? As for your last paragraph - nobody knows.
Guest MattP Posted 22 October 2011 Posted 22 October 2011 £15 is my estimation. With agents fees I'd imagine it's more. Positions - surely at some point you need a right winger? Depth yes. 6 centre midfielders?, can't think of another team in Europe that has that in the verge of the starting 11. Barca - busquets, Xavi, iniesta, fabregas, kieta...Thiago? Alcantera at a push??? To say our squad is over pop ululated is an understatement
MC Prussian Posted 22 October 2011 Posted 22 October 2011 So, having a threadbare squad of maybe 20, 22 players is better? What happens in case of injuries or suspensions? If we had known about the 5-a-side-subs rule earlier, this approach could've proven much more efficient. But we didn't.
Kitchandro Posted 22 October 2011 Posted 22 October 2011 Yet we've won more than we've lost so far. Playing crappy, yet still winning games? Usually signs of a good team. Then again, we're just 13 games into the season... Absolute rubbish I'm afraid. Good teams win/draw on off days, they don't play rubbish on a regular basis. And we've won 5, lost 4. That's why we are midtable. Yes 13 games, too many for us to not yet be into our stride. Maybe it's too early to look at the table, but it's not too early to be looking at performances.

I was talking about playing crap, yet still winning. Missing my point on purpose? I was also talking about the team having won more than it has lost. Which is true. Which is also why in this league, we're still only two points away from a playoff place (which you, indirectly agree with, given your last sentence).

Guest MattP Posted 22 October 2011 Posted 22 October 2011 MC. What do you view as a decent finish this year? 10th? 8th?
MC Prussian Posted 22 October 2011 Posted 22 October 2011 MC. What do you view as a decent finish this year? 10th? 8th? A finish in the playoff places.
Guest MattP Posted 22 October 2011 Posted 22 October 2011 A finish in the playoff places. Fair play. You don't think our outlay should demand a top 2 finish? I said top 4 btw as acceptable but a target of top 2. From what I have seen of the rest of the league I pretty much demand top 2 now. My West Ham supporting mate tonight via text "what are you doing? We are third and are absolutely shit" We got a lot of work to do.

It counts for nothing comes match day. And I don't want to go back to the point of having signed most players in a season of all teams involved, thus rendering this campaign into a veritable form of experiment hardly ever seen before. This has been discussed in depth before. As of right now, the pieces of our puzzle don't or don't want to match... yet. And I refuse to believe this is all down to the manager's fault. I find that explanation rather simplistic. Against Millwall, I saw the manager's intention in the formation that he had set up and the players he had fielded. The letdown was watching players playing in their natural roles - and then ruining it all, running around completely lost and unable to play together. Demanding a Top Two finish is one thing, but this season has to come together naturally. If we finish third (after 46 games played), would you be disappointed? To me, that would mark quite an improvement over last season's achievements.

Again the problems/issues you discuss come down to the management, you see I saw no "intention" today, much the same as wednesday, another pretty poor performance but just today we didnt come up against a side who let us score from two simple balls in and instead decided to actually attack a bit and then we were found wanting. Like I say, top 4 I say would be an improvement, before the year I said that, having watched Brighton/Soton/Leeds/Palace now who are top 4 or have been at some point I now think with our investment top 2 is pretty imperitive as its quite a shocking division. Though the problem is not this, the problem we are keep seeing the same things, (lack of width, same players in CM doing little, no goal threat, no set piece threat, poor marking) every single week and nothing seems to be happening to correct it, thats a far bigger problem that the current league position.
MC Prussian Posted 23 October 2011 Posted 23 October 2011 I'm just listening to the Post Match Phone-In and Sven makes an interesting statement about the players' fitness: "They looked good on Friday (during the training session), but today, they looked tired. We didn't have any energy. I should've changed about three players before the game." Now, correct me if I'm mistaken, but doesn't this mean that some players (up to three or even more) tricked Sven into thinking they were ready for the game when in reality they weren't? In the style of "Yeah, gaffer, I'm all good" when in fact, they were knackered or hampered by little niggles. The manager picks the best team available, the one he believes fits the bill. One could say some players were too eager to impress (abusing the manager's trust - Sven's a nice bloke after all - in order to gain a first-team starting spot) instead of giving way to others who were clearly fitter, readier and apt at handling the task. But, of course, maybe I'm just reading too much into it.

To me, that would mark quite an improvement over last season's achievements. You're living in a world of your own. This 3rd place finish scenario, do we get promoted or lose in the play-offs? Promoted - great, we're promoted. A loss in the play-offs and it's still a failure. We are not basing it on whether it's an improvement, we are basing it on the money we've spent, which is very fair. The players are not in their natural roles either, Johnson and Wellens are too deep and Abe is too far forward. And as I've said on the other thread, if they are underperforming often when does it become the managers fault?

We need a new set of fitness coaches then to be honest, we had a nice 45 minute run out on Wednesday that should of built some confidence for today. Of course that's nonsense mind as fitness played not part in the defensive calamity today combined with the embarrassing attacking offering. I certainly agree Sven is "too nice" mind, you can see that by walking past the car park and having a peak at the Bentleys our reserves are driving. Then again easy to be nice when you are only around for a year or two then off for a few more million elsewhere in the knowledge whatever you do you can convince people all your faults were actually someone elses. This is it now, like I have said, he has until the end of the season for me, Sacking him does no point (unless the ridiculous MON rumuors are true) as no one else is there and if we need to rebuild we may as well do it in the summer (and I hope they do rather than holidaying through July an spending the end of September desperately hunting round for a striker) but its time for the pisspoor excuses to stop. There would be no excuse for losing 3-0 at home to Millwall under the budget Levein had, let alone SGE. I'm sat here tonight very annoyed, I'm going to West Ham and I dont really want to, I'm not even sure if I can arsed to go to the next home game as I've had two games this week where I have been bored off my tits for 180 mins. It's not how I expected to be this year nearly into November.
MC Prussian Posted 23 October 2011 Posted 23 October 2011 You're making something up to try and defend Sven again. Laughable post based on unsubstantiated theory. So players are always honest about their personal fitness levels? When they're knackered, they say "gaffer, sod it - I'll gladly sit on the bench today"? Don't underestimate the over-eagerness of some players in order to impress the manager and/or to secure a first-team spot. With our depth in squad and the evident competition in central midfield in particular (coincidence?), that wouldn't surprise me at all.

I didn't say they were always honest, I said you're making up things with no real evidence. Again, straws being clutched at. We played today like we've played at several away games, half hearted and lazy when going forward, it's not a one off thing. Either they are unfit a lot of the time or Sven isn't motivating them. There are certain teams, such as the ones promoted last season, who give 100% commitment and drive pretty much every week and when they don't, they are given a kick up the arse so they don't do it again. I don't get the impression that Sven is the kind of manager who does that or gets that reaction from his players. But playing at this intensity, concentration, aggression and belief is necessary every week if we are to go up.

Of course, it makes life easier... BUT in all honesty, I believe that's Sven's disposition. You can go back in time and watch clips on YouTube and he's always been like that. In good and in bad times. I didn't really hear Sven making any excuses after the game, to be fair. "We were flat, flat. flat." And he was also indirectly criticising the fitness levels of some of his players and wished he had made some tactical changes before the start of the game to fix that. Well, I didn't like the majority of the games I've seen myself so far, either. But there's hope... and there's patience. Glad to see you showing signs of both.

Isnt that what physios are for? to assess whether players are injured or not? jaded or not? tired or not? and to then feedback to the manager who's running this bloody team? Sven and his staff, or the players?
