Speed Cameras

Fudging horrid things, my mate has just given me a lift home and got flahsed by the aylestone road bugger!

My mum got done last week on Welford Road, I hate the things, lining the police's pockets!

I stick to the speed limit so I won't get caught, but still I dislike them!

As the proud owner of 9 points on my licence, I can testify that quite a few cameras do have film in them!

For info, fixed cameras will catch you if you're doing 10% + 2mph above the speed limit eg, 35mph in a 30-zone, 79mph on a motorway and so on. I've been caught twice on temporary cameras (hand-held). With these, I believe there's no tolerance. I was caught doing 34mph on one of these and I have a friend who was caught doing 32mph.

I now drive very, very, very carefully. :ermm:

I'm on probation for two years as a new driver...6 Points and my I lose my licence, I currently have no points! But i've only been driving for half a year, I do speed (Not excessivly) and I ain't gonna deny it (However i've calmed down since my mate crashed his car and wrote his car off just 3 days after passing his test, which I was following :() , but i'm just aware of whats around me, such as speed camera, I nearly got done the other day, I saw the Speed Camera but for some reason didn't slow down, I was doing the speed limit but when I go past cameras I like to go abit slower than the speed limit just to be sure I don't get done.

Police drive at 120mph, other police hit everyone and everything in sight, but all get off on some pretext or technicality like "it was perfectly safe cos it was at night and he needed the practise" (which would never, never, never work for the riff raff, now would it?).

But the same goes for Police misdemeanors you don't read about, together with those of the magistrates, the Freemasons, the Royals, the Politicians and all sorts of other "Favoured Brethren" whose cases get quietly sidelined or who are accidentally/deliberately prosecuted in an unlawful manner thereby allowing them a let-off.

Everyone outside the favoured circles (assuming they speak English) is fair game for giving a financial boost to this God-forsaken Government's social spending programme (whether the beneficiaries of the latter have earned it or not).

Never mind that the people they're bleeding dry are all struggling too, have mountainloads of debt and have suddenly discovered their pension has disappeared.

We talked about the "brain-drain" in Harold Wilson's day. Now its not just the academics but anyone who is putting themselves out to earn a decent living who feel they are being victimised on the altar of political expediency. Many of them are leaving.

Look at the Rover fiasco and the thousands of other manufacturing jobs being conceded without even a fight.

And what happened before the Election, Labour politicians turned up to make out they were fighting their corner. What disgusting hypocrisy. Rover had its serious, serious problems for a long time before that and the politicians well knew about them.

"There's loads of jobs for them," the politicians bleated. Bullshit. There might be short-term jobs abroad til the Chinese et al train their own to run their own companies cloned from those We first established.

Otherwise it's just agency work and even then it's one small chunk of the wage to the worker and another small chunk to the agent.

Now the Election is over, of course, the politicians have left the whole carcass of Rover to the wolves and all the indirect carcasses as well. It's happening in America, in Europe and here too and no-one seems to have a solution because they don't have the will or they've mainly tied their options up[ in ill-conceived agreements.

So make no mistake. They'll keep putting up more speed cameras and/or thinking up more stealth taxes (it is criminal how long you must work before a penny of your wages escapes the taxman's direct or indirect fingers and goes into your pocket) but they'll still make sure the likes of Blunkett and Mandelssohn get well looked after when THEY do wrong. It's the same for the other "Favoured Brethren" mentioned earlier of course.

And while it all goes on, they'll continue making criminals of ordinary folk who just happen ("at night when they need the practise") to be travelling at 36mph in a 30-limit.

As my old colleague Richard Littlejohn would say "You couldn't make it up".

Who is to blame when you are caught speeding?

The police are raking it in and its not right but stick to the limit, its not hard.

a) How does that justify letting policeman get away with speeding at 120mph when the 36mph riff-raff gets prosecuited.

B) There's one hell of a difference between a few miles an hour over the limit in the countryside at 3am and the same speed by a school at 3.30.

Domc) n't give me that shit about "It's the law so it should be obeyed". Believe me there are good laws, bad laws and laws that only exist for political expediency.

If some politician proclaimed that all first born sons should be executed at 8.30 on Saturday morning you are just the sort who'd go along with it. A bit over the top. It happened once if the Bible is to be believed. Presumably because people like you were prepared to put up with it.

If it's "not right" why should ANYONE put up with it?

When a cop over here stops at a large intersection and cant be arsed to wait he just turns on his lights and sirens. Cruises through the light then 100 yards down the road he turns them off again. Bastards!

I agree with you. I don't have anyone else to blame but myself. I spent several years living in a region with very few cameras, became very complacent, and then when I moved, got caught three times doing 34-36mph on unfamiliar roads.

I also agree with Thracian's post. What grieves me is that the real motive for cameras isn't to prevent road accidents. It's to create revenue. A £60 fine isn't a deterrant to 95% of the motoring public... so why do they charge it?

If they were to re-invest into making drivers (like myself) re-take their tests, or take road safety courses, I would understand. But they don't. They send the traffic cops out when the coffers are a bit low. And one more officer standing at the side of a road with a camera is one less officer walking the beat.

I live in an area with one of the least effective police forces in the country, an area where two policemen have recently been sent down for murder and selling drugs in the last 6 months.

Please forgive my cynicism.

Pity they don't put black garbage bags over the politicians who rob us and pull the drawstring tight.:ph34r::ph34r:
