Jimothy Posted 5 November 2011 Posted 5 November 2011 At that level your career has to come before any sentiment. If the shirt is raised over the head, then it's a mandatory caution. I don't agree with it, and have every sympathy for the Sharp family, but it's about the only thing that is black and white and all referees usually react the same. Same game, another player scores and takes his top off celebrating you'd caution him then. Then you'd be seen to be giving Billy Sharp a free ride. Yeah but every player on that pitch and everyone watching will have known what had happened to Billy Sharp and anyone complaining about getting a booking when Sharp didn't would have to be a cold heartless bastard. In fact if I was ref and the player complained about it on the pitch I'd have sent him off for using foul and abusive language.
DB11 Posted 5 November 2011 Posted 5 November 2011 I'm fairly sure that most people wouldn't complain. Footballers complain about every single little thing. I had given a player four or five consecutive free kicks (over a period of the game) and then I penalised him for a nudge in the back. Cue the shouts from him of I'm not giving him anything all game

Let's be honest it's a stupid law anyway. As is being cautioned for celebrating with the fans.
Dylan Posted 5 November 2011 Posted 5 November 2011 I'm a referee at Sunday League Level... I would not have booked Sharp for that, even if I knew I'd get 'told off' for it after...
AyewJoking Posted 5 November 2011 Posted 5 November 2011 So was the sub still allowed on without the team having to take off another player?
Swalker Posted 20 November 2011 Posted 20 November 2011 sums up how FIFA want the game to be ruled to be honest. Being picky about little things and not challenging the big issues (racism, technology etc)
