Bamba - gaffer can make me a better player

Sol Bamba believes it is Nigel Pearson's man-management skills which will help make him a better player for Leicester City.

Pearson may have been a good centre back during his prestigious playing days and the Ivory Coast international admits he will be able to pick up some nuggets of advice.

But Bamba said it is the way Pearson handles the players which has impressed him the most.

Before Saturday's 2-1 defeat at Hull City, City had conceded only one goal in Pearson's first three games since returning to the club, and central defender Bamba said the back four were becoming a more solid unit.

"He can definitely make me a better player and the fact he was a centre-half himself will help, but I like the way he manages people," said Bamba.

"It is not just the way he deals with people about football, it is the way he talks to the players.

"Whether you play or don't play he comes and talks to you, which is important."

Bamba certainly believes City are becoming a more solid unit.

They fought back to equalise and almost grabbed a point at Hull on Saturday, despite being reduced to 10 men following the red card which was handed to his central defensive partner Matt Mills.

And Bamba said defensively City have grown in confidence.

"When you are a defender you don't like to concede any goals and there are some strong characters in the team," said Bamba.

"Even in training I am not happy if we concede a goal or lose a training game. That are the type of characters we need in the team.

"We have a good back four, some good defenders, and Kasper Schmeichel of course in goal, who has been excellent, but I think it is the way the team defends.

"When we keep clean sheets people talk about the back four but it is about the team. We keep a good shape."

Bamba said a factor in City's renewed confidence was Pearson's switch to a more traditional 4-4-2 formation, but stressed it works because of the players' attitude.

"I think every player is more comfortable in a 4-4-2, but what system the manager chooses doesn't matter, it is how we play as individuals," he said. "The shape is better but it is all about how the players react."

Although I am usually somebody who just reads these boards, I found the need to post as I met Sol on Saturday night...he was sat in a pub in MELTON MOWBRAY! Despite being pretty pissed myself, he was brilliant and happy to have a chat and his picture taken with me..... a really great guy.
