I'm against capital punishment and despite what he has done believe in human rights. But on the other hand if he was to suffer an accident I will shed no tears.

One reason why I am against Capital punishment is because I believe I could not cold-bloodily take a life and if I agree to it I should be able to carry out the punishment. A lot of people say they would but could they live with it afterwards?

Families of victims sometimes sy they want to but is that not just revenge not justice?

And what sort of people would apply do administer punishment?

'Why do you want thhis job?'

'Because I enjoy killing people'

I hope some more justice is served not by the just the nine years in prison but by all the Dad's inside his prison. Inmates and officers. Make his life hell please. There is no excuse for such an act. I don't believe in 'him living with the guilt' as a punishment ethier. This man won't feel guilty for long. He doesn't give a shit about anything or anyone. I would only shrug my shoulders and nod in agreement if he was given the death penalty. imagine it was your kid. Not a victim of society in my eyes, just scum, evil scum.

Got carried away there...all well **** it.

Ordinarily i'd agree, I am completely against capital punishment, I think it's third world and barbaric.

But for me killing a baby or child makes me too angry. I hope the other prisoners get to him. I dunno if it's because I work with babies or what.

I can see where people would come from with that, a child, particularly that young, is completely defenceless but for me, every life is equal - I wouldn't want to see people killed for killing your average man on the street so it would be a bit hypocritical of me to want them killed for killing a baby.

If left-wing is not wanting to see people strung up for a crime then yes I've got left-wing views, but my posts as to this subject have nothing to do with politics and all to do with morals. Yes the man killed an innocent child, but that doesn't make it acceptable to kill him, I didn't say people are automatically heartless bastards for not being sympathetic or compassionate, but you are for wanting someone dead.

Now then, this is a horrible thing to have happened and he does deserve to be punished for it, but killing someone is just not justifiable IMO, no matter what they've done - two wrongs don't make a right and all that. Lock him up, make him live with the guilt - as I've already said that will cause mental anguish and the psychological effects of making him live with what he did will cause far more suffering than any physical harm could.

It's highly debateable that locking him up would prompt mental anguish, except perhaps in feeling sorry for himself. These people easily justify anything and everything to themselves. Also, their daily existence is often so bad, so hopeless, that prison can be welcomed, although it is never easy for a child killer in prison.

The baby's life has been lost and cannot be replaced. But, given my way, the culprit would be offered the option to work from dawn til dusk to make such recompense as was possible over a 15 year sentence. There would be no automatic remission for good behaviour only a review that might earn a reduction of one year..

The man would work - and work hard, for the time of his sentence - based (kindly in my view) on a quarter of the life potential he destroyed. The work would earn his daily bread and the product of that work would go 50% to the baby's family and 50% to the prison system.

The work would be voluntary of course. No work, no food!

There would be nothing morally wrong in this. The man could either chose to repay his debt to society as far as possible or to effectively end his sorry life if he saw no further point in it. The decision would be his. Laws against suicide would be rescinded. It is your life. You've every right to end it.

There would also be exercise, two-hours of sentence-reducing overtime per day would be available and skill-developing education. There would be no televisions or computer games and the only social dialogue would be at mealtimes and during exercise.

Perhaps, with this sort of prison regime, people might think twice about killing babies.

Or just chop his back wheels off and let him bleed to death...

I know there have been many miscarriages of justice and inocent men/women have gone to the gallows, having said that, where there is no doubt of guilt I would take them straight out into the courtyard and shoot them.
