broughtonblue Posted 17 December 2011 Posted 17 December 2011 i think that in the next few days i will be offered a job doing continental shifts, 4 12 hour days, 4 days off, followed by 4 12 hour nights. at present i do a rotating 3 shift system, lates, earlies and nights. as i hate nights and the new shifts will mean doing more i'm not keen, also as a season ticket holder i will miss loads of matches. the only plus point i can think of is a 5k pay rise. does anybody do 'continentals' and give me any plus or negative points?
Leicfox Posted 17 December 2011 Posted 17 December 2011 It's Marmite.... The only benefits will be the pay rise and the fact you will have 4 days to yourself. It's not really for me as imo the cons outweigh the pro's, but then again the pay rise you'd be getting would be very tempting. Good luck with your decision.
Amin Posted 17 December 2011 Posted 17 December 2011 I thought it was gonna be a thread on the movement of continental plates.
Rincewind Posted 17 December 2011 Posted 17 December 2011 Security work is mostly like that. Started it about seven years ago. 60 or 72 hours to start with. Days and nights. Then anything from 48-60 hours till my last place where it was two midweek night shifts and two weekend day shifts. I got used to it and liked the 2 1/2 days off after the weekend shift. But TBH continenal shifts should be left to the continentals. It fecks up sleeping patterns.
grth2004 Posted 17 December 2011 Posted 17 December 2011 Used to do them and the only good feeling was driving home 6 am monday morning knowing i had 4 days off and watching everybody with monday blues driving the other way to work.
Finnegan Posted 18 December 2011 Posted 18 December 2011 Not sure about the nights but four on, four off is tidy in my opinion. Better to bash your hours out in blocks than to have to slog in to work every morning, but that's just me. I did months of having to do twelve hour shifts as part of my 37 week but they split it so I was doing every other day (Monday, Weds, Friday making up the four hours on a Tuesday morning.) Was absolutely knackering and I never really felt I could properly enjoy my days off. Blocks of being on and blocks of being off, muchbetter.
SOCCERROO FOX Posted 20 December 2011 Posted 20 December 2011 4 on 4 off would be perfect as long as your days off were Fri - Mon
foxoffderby Posted 20 December 2011 Posted 20 December 2011 I'd hope for a longer summer with a sustained period of sunshine not a few days in July we get at the moment.
