davieG Posted 29 June 2005 Posted 29 June 2005 Did I miss some of his career as I don't remember him ever performing like a £1.5m player, Oh of course this was with taylormonopoly money #Benji's target Jun 28 2005 By Andy Turner, Evening Telegraph MICKY ADAMS has challenged Trevor Benjamin to get back to the form that made him a £1.5m player for Leicester City. The Coventry City manager has signed the 26-year-old forward on a new one-year deal, hoping to get the best out of the player whom he worked with at the Walkers Stadium. Although Benjamin only scored one goal for the Sky Blues after joining them from Northampton in February, he did set up team-mates and proved a useful substitute with his effervescent work-rate. Explaining his decision to keep him, Adams said: "Trevor gives me options both up front and wide left and always tries to do the job I set him. "A few years ago he was more than a £1 million player, so he is no mug. But what he needs to do is get back to where he was and hopefully he can do that with Coventry. "He is a good squad player and that's what I need." Benjamin made a name for himself at his first club Cambridge United, earning himself a big money move to Leicester in 2000 under Peter Taylor. But since then the bustling front man has been on loan at seven clubs --Crystal Palace, Norwich City, West Brom, Gillingham, Rushden, Brighton and Northampton - before linking up with his old manager at Highfield Road. Micky bollocks on for ages about nothing blah blah blah...... If football was played with a squad of 30 players on the pitch, Micky Adams would win the Prem every year. Get your suitcase Trev! Your going on loan by October. Poor fella.
Macca4lcfc Posted 30 June 2005 Posted 30 June 2005 Crystal Palace, Norwich City, West Brom - he must have had a magic touch for all 3!
Thracian Posted 30 June 2005 Posted 30 June 2005 Crystal Palace, Norwich City, West Brom - he must have had a magic touch for all 3! 129968[/snapback] Certain players seem blessed with a place in the "jobs for the boys" brigade. Blake was one and now Benjamin. If you've been around as much as those two there's always someone assumes you can "do a job". No wonder, with so many such players around, it is so hard for youngsters to get their break. I don't suggest Benjamin doesn't try hard. I just seem to say it again and again on the forum...strikers are supposed to score goals and, to be WORTH £1.5 million, Benjamin needs to score em at the top end of the Championship. I have yet to see any evidence of that happening. What a screaming pity that managers who would place such a valuation on players like Benjamin don't have to back their judgement with their own money. It's bloody easy to waste other people's - isn't it Mr Taylor.
