Leicester Falcon Posted 18 January 2012 Posted 18 January 2012 OK, I think we all agree Nottingham Forest were terribly below par last night but as they say, you can only beat what’s put in front of you. Leicester, regardless of how lacklustre the opponent was, were at the races from the first whistle last night. The flexible 442 that Nigel Pearson selected worked a treat and suits so many of our influential players, one of which being Jermaine Beckford. Now Beckford has not hit the ground running here and seems to have lost a lot of supporters around the King Power Stadium, this I feel is highly unjust. If playing as a lone striker, which seems to have been the case more often than not since he signed here, then you won’t get the best out of him and that’s not his fault. He’s not a target man, he won’t hold the ball up for you. Beckford is a poacher, an off the shoulder kind of striker who wants to score goals, nothing else. Yes he’ll work for you and chase things down but essentially, to get the best out of him, like we did last night, he needs a strike partner and plenty of supply. A striker is only ever as good as his supply and last night Beckford proved this. He and David Nugent were brilliant. They played off each other as well as with the midfield four who were all fantastic, in particular Paul Gallagher who’s roaming role in the team brought the best of his ability out too. Now next Monday is going to be a completely different challenge for us, but we’ve shown that in this system we have fluidity, tempo and supply to our strikers. With that formula we can be a match for anyone in this division. I just hope now Pearson sticks with this system so we can see how well we’d fair against one of the stronger teams in the Championship when we have a go at them. Let’s go there with winning on our mind and utilise the likes of Beckford and Gallagher again. On song we’ll cause problems, no question. Whether we have the bottle to try that in bigger fixtures remains the question now for me.

Wasnt all down to this miraculous supply that apparently suddenly just appeared last night
Corky Posted 18 January 2012 Posted 18 January 2012 Beckford got involved more. His chasing down of lost causes was much appreciated, and his finishing clinical.
MikeyT Posted 18 January 2012 Posted 18 January 2012 Beckford got involved more. His chasing down of lost causes was much appreciated, and his finishing clinical. Exactly this.
cc_star Posted 18 January 2012 Posted 18 January 2012 Beckford got involved more. His chasing down of lost causes was much appreciated, and his finishing clinical. yep, That along with everyone's desire to to actually 'move' was refreshing, Beckford helped the team & the team helped Beckford
bluearmy7 Posted 18 January 2012 Posted 18 January 2012 it was a much improved performance and i wont put a dampner on it just not gonna let myself get carried away with it we have seen how things can change quickly in football so gonna stay grounded but hopeful
paddy Agyemang Posted 18 January 2012 Posted 18 January 2012 Maybe Pearson is right, that he will get the best out of JB as last night proved that
DANGEROUS TIGER Posted 18 January 2012 Posted 18 January 2012 Sven knew what he was doing when he signed Beckford. Give him space, and supply him properly with the ball, and he will continue to produce the goods.
Jace Posted 18 January 2012 Posted 18 January 2012 2 goals were from deflections off the keeper and Beckford was first to the ball, maybe we should sign the forest keeper and stick him in midfield?
