We don't want your aid.

Look after ourselves?, part of giving aid is to do exactly that.

Quite a lot of aid is loans which has interest added, Aid isn't just one way aid comes back into the UK via contracts given to British companies, it buys access and the opportunity to recieve trade from those nations. Why do you think we still send aid to countries like china? or India?

Less than a third of a pence for every pound you pay in taxes goes towards aid.

Oh dear.

What's so wrong about that? We have x amount of people jobless, losing their homes and not having a spare penny to rub together. Although I don't know the figure the 'aid budget' is usually very high. Our government would be better off investing it in our people. Its not our fault India's a shite country just because of our empire.

Sorry I know those words are harsh but thats the long and short of it.

The aid budget is about 10 billion, of which India get about 10% of that, it may seem like a lot but in the grand scheme of things it is less than 1% of government spending, and it includes emergency aid in case of disasters.

When you consider that it may cost the Government 130 billion to repace trident, then it is not that much, and if we are going to cut anything to put money back in to the welfare state, which incidentally the government is cutting the budget of, then I would nominate that.

We do not supply aid to India because of our colonial past, we do so because, in 2005, a third of the worlds population that were living in poverty live in India. There have been studies that show that that number is decreasing but there are still more people living in poverty in India than any other country.

The government could give a substantial sum to many people not far off retirement on the proviso that they took an early retirement, opening up thousands of jobs for todays yoof. They would have to put the money back into the system, say by buying a new car bolstering that area of the economy (as one example)

That would kickstart the whole country.

Come on its a third world country. Or an LEDC if you want to be PC about it.

So many people say we should keep out of countries affairs when speaking about recent wars, yet its ok to be involved in their affairs when it involves us being charitable towards them?

They could do that, but they aren't instead they are increasing the retirement age and the penalties on taking early retirement, the government could do some good things for the UK with the aid budget, but judging by their track record, they won't so I am much happier it goes to people that need it rather than funding the latest vanity project/smokescreen/hit to our economy dreamed up by the coalition.
