Stadt Posted 15 February 2012 Posted 15 February 2012 Most people on here are critiscing whoever they can, scapegoating etc etc... Our defense was crap but a lot of our problems are with set pieces dfensively and attacking wise. But particularily on Tuesday our set pieces where awful, we have scored from a few free-kicks and corners but the majority are awful. When we get a corner I don't get excited anymore, it's rather infuriating espicially as this league is physical. So I'd like NP to sort them out please. PS - When was the last time we scored directly from a corner?
ThurnbyLodgeFox Posted 15 February 2012 Posted 15 February 2012 The same question everyone is asking themselves... I feel its all part of the progression we are about to hit, along with back-to-back wins
Libertine Dream Posted 15 February 2012 Posted 15 February 2012 Most of the time corners just break down our play or give them the opportunity to counter, likewise with throw ins. Just whip an attackable ball in, Mills attacked them like Elliott and Walsh did when he was at Reading.
Heart-Shaped Fox Posted 15 February 2012 Posted 15 February 2012 Let Danns take them all the time, muc better than the usual ones as he puts them in at pace.
Stadt Posted 15 February 2012 Author Posted 15 February 2012 Yeah, this will probably undermime what I said about scapegoating but Gally is often said to be a set piece specialist but they're constantly gash, he will float a corner over and the majority of his free kicks are awful, His ratio of good games to bad games is like 1:6.

Everyone knows my opinion about him on ehre so its best i dont say anything as I'll just get criticised as normal!!!
LCFC_Peter Posted 15 February 2012 Posted 15 February 2012 Konchesky's free kicks are alot better than gallys i havnt seen him take a a corner tho he could be good!
acooling08 Posted 16 February 2012 Posted 16 February 2012 Defensively we are very frail, which is surprising considering the arial presence we have in Mills/SSL/Bamba/Morgan. Offensively, apart from a rare Gallagher screamer, we never seem to threaten.
jonlcfc1990 Posted 16 February 2012 Posted 16 February 2012 Corners and set pieces haven't been strong since MON but what do you expect he has one of the best team conversion rates from set pieces at every team he goes to. If we can all see it so can NP the difficulty is that different types of defending against us makes it hard to score Zonal and man to man are a bitch to try and get on top of especially when you use Gallys method of pinging it to the first man for a knock on. Against forest his corners were landing right in the danger zone and against SOTON which led to Mills goal IMO we should just whip it in more often none of this passing around the box one touch to Konch Danns or Gally and whip it in and the rest get running onto the end of it. I'm hoping we will cross more when Bamba is back and playing in his correct position of CAM
davieG Posted 16 February 2012 Posted 16 February 2012 We can't even take throw ins with out losing bloody possession most of the time!
FrankieADZ Posted 16 February 2012 Posted 16 February 2012 Cant really remember the last time we scored from a corner.....direct or other wise. Remember it use to be a big part of our game during the MON era with the deliveries from Guppy & such. Also I personally dont think we defend corners very well atm either....we look at 6's & 7's.
bmt Posted 16 February 2012 Posted 16 February 2012 Gally and konch both have decent free kicks in the locker although theyre both inconsistent. Gallys corners are shite though (especially from the right).
Guest Col city fan Posted 16 February 2012 Posted 16 February 2012 I must be missing something here. From what I see, Gallys deliveries are generally superb.. Sometimes whipped in, sometimes floated... But more often than not deadly accurate. The problem IMO is that no-one gets on the end of anything. There is little gambling, strength, jostling to make sure that one of our players connects with the delivery. If we had a player like Iwelumo in the side I'm sure he'd score a lot with his head. I cannot think of one example when Beckford, or any of the midfield lads ( except King) has connected with anything in the air this season. The only one who does seem to be able to read where the ball will end up is Nugent.. Again demonstrating his fight to get to the cross.
Poakey Posted 16 February 2012 Posted 16 February 2012 I watched Cardiffs goals the other night(when they won 3-1), they scored 2 goals from Whittinghams corners, one of them went directly in from the corner spot. I thought at the time of watching these thats what we were missing. We seem to get alot of corners but its very rare we score from them.
MrFox781 Posted 16 February 2012 Posted 16 February 2012 We scored against southampton at home all be it an own goal which should have never been counted. dont know if that counts. but before that, last i remember was swansea at home.
