To be fair, his arrogance about his 'ability' and then being completely ineffectual 9 times out of 10 is what I suspect gets quite a lot of peoples goat ie; wearing golden boots and then failing to kick a 'dead' ball 20 odd yards at about 8 foot high.

I fail to see how a professional footballer cannot simply put his foot under the ball and loft it towards the box, it's playground stuff.

I don't think it's his fault that Nigel has him as his 'dead ball specialist' and I don't see how doing what he is clearly instructed to do has any correlation to arrogance. And as for the quality of his set pieces, for everyone that doesn't clear the first man, there is an absolute peach.
