RonnieTodger Posted 14 May 2012 Posted 14 May 2012 http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/speedway/18054767 Shocked to say the least. Any Speedway fans will know of him and regard him as one of Britain's top riders in the last decade. Just 33. RIP Lee
MattyFromLE Posted 14 May 2012 Posted 14 May 2012 RIP Lee, pretty sure i watched him race in one of the grand prix's - excellent rider.
isaidno Posted 14 May 2012 Posted 14 May 2012 I think he raced in the Magnus Karlson testimonial at Leicester earlier in the season. RIP
Matt Posted 14 May 2012 Posted 14 May 2012 Shocked. RIP Lee. Thankfully it doesn't happen alot (That I know off) but i'm surprised how little this happens or how little speedway riders come away with no major injuries and have a accident that looks serious then they get up and race in the next race, crazy.
Stig the Lawnmower Posted 15 May 2012 Posted 15 May 2012 very sad, he went head first into the barrier. would have been avoided if there was an air fence, or a collapsable barrier. cost cutting?

Problem is with Speedway that teams only deploy the air-fences on corners and that's just at the higher levels. Lower league teams don't even have them on the bends. But yeah I think the main reason is that it's very rare riders crash into the side and teams probably don't feel the need to use them.

Right, these types of accidents are rare, which considering the number of meetings that are run each year is a 'good' average, after all, a lot of sports are dangerous - probably more have died playing football. albeit from respiratory/heart conditions. however, I understand that safety is being reviewed after his accident
Amin Posted 16 May 2012 Posted 16 May 2012 Horrible crash. What injuries did he die of exactly? The BBC link mentioned a heavy blow to the chest but his head seemed to get quite a battering too.
