Jordan Posted 9 August 2012 Posted 9 August 2012 Last year's USA-Japan WWC final was sensational, and on the back of Monday's thrilling semifinals (USA-CAN is possibly the greatest game in women's football history), one just hopes the rematch at Wembley lives up to the hype. I, for one, am quite excited to have a few beers and enjoy the show. The Yanks have been spoiling for this fight since they qualified for London, vowing to finish the job this time--especially if they met Japan. Abby Wambach and Alex Morgan are dominating up front, but unfortunately, those questions I was asking of the defense earlier in the tournament still do not have satisfactory answers. In the two games With the fine form the U.S.'s forwards and wingers are on, one would think they could simply just score one more than whomever they're playing. However, as last year's WWC Final, this year's Champions League, etc. showed, sometimes even all the possession and chances a team could ask for cannot guarantee such a result. That said, Pia Sundhage is a "players' coach," and is also does not like to make changes to a winning side--even one that's conceded 5 goals in the two games they have played against good forwards. In fact, Sundhage's Plan B is to double-down on offense and switch to 3-4-3. Carli Lloyd--who has been an unsung hero replacing the injured Shannon Boxx--will have her hands full marking Homare Sawa in front of the U.S. back line. Prediction: USA 2-1 Japan. One apiece for Abby and Alex before Japan pulls one back and makes things very, very nervous.
