purpleronnie Posted 25 July 2012 Posted 25 July 2012 Watched team gb play sweden, they passed it around better than the men did.
Heart-Shaped Fox Posted 25 July 2012 Posted 25 July 2012 Every time i watch it on tv there is always really bad goals scored. One because the keepers are too small and secondly the goals are too big.
Manwell Pablo Posted 25 July 2012 Author Posted 25 July 2012 Watched team gb play sweden, they passed it around better than the men did. I think my Sunday team could pass the ball better than Team GB did against Brazil to be quite frank!
Ashley Posted 25 July 2012 Posted 25 July 2012 I'm watching this on TV, I like womens football and was involved in running a girls team. Hope Team GB get a win on the cards today.
Jordan Posted 25 July 2012 Posted 25 July 2012 I'll watch when I can; I like watching the U.S. women in international competitions. I'm predicting LW Megan Rapinoe will be the stand-out player of the tournament--great player on-and-off the ball, very tenacious tackler, and is always looking to make a play. It looks like Olympics Women's Football Fever hasn't quite infected Cardiff. GB has settled down after a shaky start and look fairly well suited to playing more of a counterattacking game. I didn't know which of the two teams were favorites coming in. edit to add GB have really settled down and their off-the-ball running and set pieces have helped them take the game over from NZ. That's one sign of a well-coached team, which makes sense considering Hope Powell is in charge. GB's finishing has been poor but I'd have to say I think they'll go on and win this game.
purpleronnie Posted 25 July 2012 Posted 25 July 2012 I have to say I'm baffled why they chose such large venues for the football it was never going to sell out, that includes a lot of the mens games too, they should either have lowered the prices (yeah right) or picked smaller venues. USA were 2-0 down now 2-2...they should go on to win it now.

The Ricoh Arena is by some distance the smallest ground used, and even then it's being used for games like Mexico v Gabon and Senegal v UAE. Hardly mouthwatering stuff. Surely they'd have been better off taking it to places like Cardiff City Stadium or some of the smaller grounds in London like The Den. Anyway, GB impressing so far. I quite fancy them to get on the podium.
Rincewind Posted 25 July 2012 Posted 25 July 2012 just turned it on. Never thought the Olympics started till Friday? Whens the mens next game?
Webbo Posted 25 July 2012 Posted 25 July 2012 *OLD JOKE ALERT* I'm only watching to see them swap shirts at the end.
Rincewind Posted 25 July 2012 Posted 25 July 2012 got BBC Olympic Channel USA V France on 3 Japan V Canada on 2 2-2 and 2-0 dont know which is best or worst.
Rincewind Posted 25 July 2012 Posted 25 July 2012 Canada got one back. Pretty poor goal. Across the goal line keeper could not come out slotted in from 3 yards.
Mack Posted 25 July 2012 Posted 25 July 2012 Some sports dont translate well between the sexes, Football is one of those.
Guest MattP Posted 25 July 2012 Posted 25 July 2012 Watched a game a few years back and never watched one again, was pathetic. Any excuse to bring this video up though, fantastic. (go to 20 secs to see the most comical piece of football ever seen)
Jordan Posted 25 July 2012 Posted 25 July 2012 USA vs. France was played in a much higher gear than GB vs NZ. Thiney's opener from France and Lloyd's winner for the USA were excellent shots. Great comeback by the USA. France had the USA reeling in the 1st half but they just couldn't knock them out. USA was on a roll until about the 80th minute, but their play at the end looked terribly naive--similar to the reckless play that cost them two leads against Japan last summer. When you're up 4-2 at the end, there's no need to press for a 5th. Some sports dont translate well between the sexes, Football is one of those. If there's one thing besides being able to watch 22 women in great shape at once where women's football has it better than the men's game, it's that the referees allow players to actually make tackles (and the players generally just get up and get on with the game).
Leicfox Posted 25 July 2012 Posted 25 July 2012 Decent free-kick to win the game but when GB hit the post from a header the Kiwi goalie gave a little fist pump and kissed the post was the highlight of the game for me.
acooling08 Posted 25 July 2012 Posted 25 July 2012 I just saw the goalkeepers' attempt at that free kick - oh dear I do think there are a few good female players, but they are held back by the large amount of fvcking useless ones, especially goalkeepers.
Jordan Posted 25 July 2012 Posted 25 July 2012 Colombia vs North Korea delayed because the staff at Hampden Park accidentally displayed the South Korean flag on the scoreboard. The North Korean players walked off.

Schlupp Posted 25 July 2012 Posted 25 July 2012 Take a bow scoreboard operator, take a bow. That shows how much people actually care about womens football.
