Fan jailed for smoke grenade

Recommended Posts

Worra twat, seems harsh, 2 months in jail, but it is a stupid and reckless thing to do.

really? He didnt even ignite it, happens in the US all the time, seen them used in scotland quite a bit too....2 months in jail just for having it?

Can't imagine another country in the world that would jail someone for having it, mind you no other country is likely to send someone to prison for stealing a bottle of water so I guess I shouldnt be too surprised.

Jail time is harsh, but everyone knows you can't take explosives of any kind into a stadium, you can't even smoke in the stands so smoke bombs are clearly out.

You break the rules you get punished to be honest he probably deserves it for such a ridiculous excuse.

"If that grenade had gone off in that stadium I can't even begin to think what would have happened."

Um, a bit of smoke would have filled a small portion of the stand for a few seconds before the wind blew it away and no harm came to anyone?

Bit of a dick whoever took it into the ground, but doing jail time for it is bloody ridiculous...

lol

District judge Maurice Champion said: "This was an appalling act of utter recklessness.

"If that grenade had gone off in that stadium I can't even begin to think what would have happened."

You have to feel sorry for any football fan having his case heard by one of this countries judges, they seem so out of touch with reality it's incredible.

Be interested to know if he has any previous.

Appalling act of recklessness. lol

Better way to describe a lot of the sentences not handed out to genuinely life-threatening crimes.

I suppose these and flares have nbeen used before and I've never heard of someone being sent to prison....maybe he did have previous, maybe the judge was in a bad mood.

What a waste of taxpayers money.

On one hand people want dangerous criminals released from prisons because locking them up is too expensive and then we have someone going to prison for having a smoke grenade that they din't even use.

I respect the fact that you are a major cricket fan and generally are an intelligent guy, but do you really think this is the judges fault? They follow something called the Law. The Law is made by a bunch of inept politicians who currently happen to be conservative.... So if you are going to blame anyone for this silly practitional of the actual law, blame those who make the law i.e. the polticians, not those who administer it....

I appreciate your kind words.

I think the judge in this case would have had the authority to not pass a sentance. If not then I feel for him for the defendant.

He would have to be sentenced as he was guilty, a jail sentence is probably not mandatory for this type of offence, that does depend on the law and the guidelines set out for such an offence, but as someone said up there, maybe he has previous and this is not his first offence, that is the only reasoning I can think of for a harsh sentence, either that or he is black.
