Guest MattP Posted 30 August 2012 Posted 30 August 2012 Pushed. You've got to be joking? The ECB has always had complete loyalty to Strauss, no way in a million years would they push him out the door. I thought he was going to retire after the India series last year so it was always on the cards, people are trying to make much more out of it than what it is and it's a bit pathetic to be honest, he's 35, he's best days are long behind him and we have done the job of grooming Cook now as the ODI captain for a year. It's a normal sensible decision and perfectly timed for the India tour, anyone who seriously thinks it has anything to do with the KP situation is deluded.
Guest MattP Posted 30 August 2012 Posted 30 August 2012 Some of us aren't on holidays and have jobs we must attened plus it just looks empty. Trent Bridge 15,000 a sell out MCG 50,000 still looks empty. We do here as well! The last day in Sydney when I was there last year if you took out the English the attendance wouldn't have topped 10,000, the MCG was similar when it was obvious we were going to win, you would never see that here win, lose or draw.
Captain... Posted 30 August 2012 Posted 30 August 2012 Ashes might be a little more interesting now with no KP and Straus. And a little more English
oxford blue Posted 30 August 2012 Posted 30 August 2012 I'm surprised that Bell is being mentioned as an opener or number 3. An opener. no 3 needs to be able to build an innings and see off the new ball. In test matches he's at his best when the shine has gone and he can be more expansive in his shots. I don't think he's the patience to be able to build an innings as no 1/ 2/ 3. That's why I think it is time to bring in Joe Root as opener, or play Trott as opener and bring in Nick Compton as no.3. These are ther usual batting positions and both have potential to improve.
