marbelladave Posted 21 September 2012 Posted 21 September 2012 Modern football eh....... Centre mids are now defenders, fullbacks are now a primary attacking threat and wingers are at their best playing through the middle....
leicesterseddon Posted 21 September 2012 Posted 21 September 2012 He's not been too bad this season. Agree with the concerns about his defensive abilities but he seems (so far) at least to be an improvement on Peltier. More concerning is our lack of defensive options generally. As things currently stand, our back-up at LB is our first-choice RB (De Laet) or second-choice CB (St. Ledger), and our back-up at RB is our third-choice CB (Moore). Truth be told we've got no idea when Whitbread will be fully fit and even then how effective he's going to be (he was pisspoor against Burton Albion). It would only take one injury in the defensive ranks (particularly to Konchesky or Morgan) and the whole set-up would have to change. And let's face it, it's a long hard season and sooner or later we are going to sustain injuries.

DANGEROUS TIGER Posted 21 September 2012 Posted 21 September 2012 It’s perhaps an old fashioned view but I believe that a full back’s main attribute should be his defending ability. RDL has regularly shown he’s very good attacking down the right flank, but defensively he is often unsure. His positioning can be very poor leading to opportunities for the opposition – Wolves 2nd goal was partly his fault. We all know Gareth Bale started as a full back, but now plays further forward to great effect. I think Glen Johnson would be better in midfield (although at last he does seem better defensively). Perhaps RDL’s best position would be midfield, where he could develop his attacking abilities. I realise that would leave us short of cover at RB, so may be unlikely short term (unless Moore or Schlupp is played there.) I’d be interested to see other views. Yes, I have to say that I agree with you. Sorry about that, because you could be a marked man now.
Corky Posted 21 September 2012 Posted 21 September 2012 Peltier actually started off well then went downhill. Might be the opposite with De Laet.
