jonthefox Posted 27 September 2012 Posted 27 September 2012 I presume the placing of something like this wouldn't cause them many problems, so i guess the real issue would be cost.
jonthefox Posted 27 September 2012 Posted 27 September 2012 Btw. Is this the sort of thing your on about?. http://www.offbeat.group.shef.ac.uk/statues/STUK_Bloomer_Steve.htm
davieG Posted 27 September 2012 Author Posted 27 September 2012 Btw. Is this the sort of thing your on about?. http://www.offbeat.g...oomer_Steve.htm Yes or something simpler even, as you say the cost is a big issue and to put all that cost into one statue that would not get a 100% vote due to generation spread would be a problem. Spread the money across several 'legends' and satisfy more fans. It wouldn't be as spectacular as a statue but i think it would add a certain class and character to a bland stadium and could be turned into a walk of fame around the stadium that would be for all fans to see and read about.
indierich06 Posted 27 September 2012 Posted 27 September 2012 As I said above, some might say Gillies was our best ever manager but O'Neill achieved more on paper. But the bottom line for me is, without any disrespect, when you've only got 3 league cups (oh and a charity shield) to your name that isn't much worthy of a statue. I don't know, Gillies turned us into a force in the top division at a time when teams like Liverpool, Man United and Spurs were reaching their zenith. I know it's all if's and but's, but if we'd have won the three FA Cup finals we'd been in, if we'd won the league in 62/63 people would be talking about Matt Gillies and the Ice Kings in the same breath as people like Busby, Shankly, Ramsey, Charlton, Law... I think O'Neill did an amazing job here, but I think Gillies just about shades it as our all time best manager and the only thing you can criticise him for is for not taking the opportunities that were there - the first division title and three FA Cups could all have been ours. I don't think enough praise is heaped on Bert Johnson either, probably the best coach Leicester City have ever had. There's a good article about Leicester in the 60's here: http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/blog/2011/oct/06/forgotten-story-leicester-city-ice-kings
indierich06 Posted 27 September 2012 Posted 27 September 2012 I'd love to see a permanent Leicester City Museum at the ground. The only way it'll become a reality is to get the fans behind it and show the owners that there is interest in it. The best way I can think of doing that is to get a petition together, asking the owners to consider a permanent exhibition at the staidum. If we could get enough signatures and a bit of publicity from The Mercury, the owners would have to take a bit of notice?

I'd go further and say the only way we'll get one is by subscription from the fans and even then it will have to show a profit so be ready to have to pay a high price to view it as well. If it don't make money they're not interested in it whatever it maybe.

If it don't make money they're not interested in it whatever it maybe. It would cost a lot of money to do it properly. I'd happily pay a reasonable entrance fee if they made it worth it though - there's so much they could do with it - the fans could contribute a lot of stuff as some people have said earlier and there's a wealth of material. They could do a lot of interactive stuff as well. Just depends whether there's the demand for it. If we were a team like Man U or Liverpool, I'd say do it, no doubt. Plus, if they located it at the ground, it gets more people visiting during the week when there aren't any matches on and if you're going to the museum, you're probably going to pop into the megastore on your way home. Would be a good way of increasing traffic in there. You could get school parties and local kids sports teams during the week too, all of whom will have parents who are happy to shell out on a bit of merchandise. I do think it would be a good commercial idea. I wouldn't mind paying a few quid to get in, maybe a fiver.
Guest Basildon Fox Posted 27 September 2012 Posted 27 September 2012 Perhaps someone should talk to the club about this but look for donations towards paying for it. You could have a plaque below the statue with the names of the people who had given towards it. Minimum donation say £30. Could work...
Guest Basildon Fox Posted 27 September 2012 Posted 27 September 2012 Oh and with regards to a museum. Not sure this would be financially viable. I went to Barcelonas 18 years ago. The difference is that they get people throughout the world going to see it. We would be lucky to get people as far as Birmingham coming to see ours.

Again, this is something I'd happily donate for, because it's something I'd really like to see. It's alright to say you'd like a museum, or a statue, or a hall of fame but expect someone else to pay for it all out of their own pocket.

Fans did contribute a lot to it and they lost a lot of it when it was put on hold and into storage which is frankly unforgivably, as i said the club have been a complete let down on this issue but that is nothing new.
steveherbe Posted 27 September 2012 Posted 27 September 2012 Great player, but can never forgive the guy. As a 17 year old playing for Barwell in a testimonial match against City All Stars, Gibbo was ref and penalised me for a foul AFTER I'd scored a 25 yard screamer!! As I say, I can never forgive him

Then you could have fan sponsored ones. I know i'm going on about this, but i seriously think it could fly.
