The terms of the bidding for that contract were drawn up under Labour in accordance with European law. These laws mean that British companies, at least in theory, should be able to bid for foreign contracts on an equal footing. Whether it would have been possible to skew the contract to give British firms an advantage I don't know but it was definitely Labours doing.

They are just as big a bunch of fvckwits, I understand that there should be competition from abroad, but there needs to be some sense applied, and for the Tories to say, well we will try and do something about it, in the meantime a few 1000 more are unemployed is not good enough.

Oh it's Labour's fault not ours we are only the ruling party we can't do anything. Nonsense.

Govts have to obey the the law same as everybody else. If the terms of the contract had all ready been drawn up the govt couldn't break those terms without the threat of legal action. Siemens could sue for millions in which case some people would no doubt be accusing the PM of massive incompetence.

Labour's attempts to attack the govt for their own doing is so cynical it's sickening.

Now, THIS is tax evasion. Offshore benefit trusts are about as dodgy as it comes. HMRC should be able to nail these people on IR35.

Maybe my understanding is a bit simplistic but isn't IR35 for when contractors are in effect employees, but if they're being supply teachers then surely as long as they aren't just working for one education authority then they're ok?

You do know the huge majority of British exports go to other EU countries? What would happen if all of their governments only bought from domestic companies?? Sometimes you just have to spend public money on the best product. We tried buying British before, and all it gave us was uncompetitive and unimaginative companies. Competition should reward the best product regardless of where it is made.
