I just found the LOTR book dragged on loads and it was boring. However, the film, al beit long, does have action through out and you can understand it much more. I find the Harry Potter films aimed too much at children but the books can be read by anyone IMO.

Very little contact with LOTR apart from drunkenly watching the first film during the first year of uni. Wasn't really paying attention. It's weird how people get away with not being branded geeks for liking Harry Potter and Lord of the Rings. A kids book about a posh wizard and a fantasy series about hobbits. ???

It's the only one I've seen in the cinema, I've seen the other two because my (21 year old) sister has them all on DVD.
