z-layrex Posted 18 April 2013 Posted 18 April 2013 This is stupid. It's still Cardiff football club, they just changed the colour of the shirt. How are we with our Thai conglomerate any different to Cardiff??
larrylloyd Posted 19 April 2013 Posted 19 April 2013 This is stupid. It's still Cardiff football club, they just changed the colour of the shirt. How are we with our Thai conglomerate any different to Cardiff?? Spot on (sadly) Many many of our older supporters were totally pi**ed off with the rebrand. Not so much that he changed the shirts to red, but the fact that he didnt incorporate more blue in it. Blue shorts, socks, trims... Everyone would have swallowed that. The badge is an absolute mess though. All the megalomaniac had to do was consult with supporters groups and everyone would have been happy. He would have realised the Welsh are hugely proud of the Dragon, but it belongs on a Welsh shirt, not as an overpowering symbol over the Bluebird on our Club badge. When the death threats and the protests and criticism came (as it inevitably did) he said "I will walk away if people are rude to me".. totally missing the irony of his rudeness to the supporters. But Cardiff City will be here long after Vincent Tan is gone. The main reason we have accepted it is because we all realise that WITHOUT him... Cardiff City will have gone out of business. So its been a bitter, but necessary pill to swallow. Leicester (and Clubs like yours) have long been the yardstick for Cardiff City. Cardiff is only slightly larger (though with a very large single Club pulling area) but we have been in the doldrums for so long its as if we were born for it. Leicester were a bit of a role model in that you were a top flight Club for so many years (and I daresay, will be again, if not this term then very soon) In all honesty we aspire to be a recognised top flight Club, to be bigger than Leicester ever were. But we are not there yet by any means, and maybe we never will be!! So for Leicester fans calling us sell-outs etc. Imagine this... Imagine Leicester had never been in the top flight over the last 53 years. Instead, pottering about in the dungeons like a sad old feller in his allotment, Imagine FINALLY... after all the near misses, you really are on the brink of being wound up. No recourse. No money. No hope. Then imagine some geezer comes in and solves all your financial problems, turns the Club into a well-oiled, professional machine with a manager and squad to match. Red really is better than dead. It has to be.
MC Prussian Posted 19 April 2013 Posted 19 April 2013 All I wonder is, how long will this "miracle" last? Tan could be pulling the plug, take all his money and walk away any day. Maybe not now (with promotion to the Premier League achieved and the club acting as a huge prestige project), but I do fear the worst when Cardiff City pull a QPR next season with a heavily overpriced squad full of mercenaries that never gelled to be a team. But hey ho, enjoy your spell up there and the two derbies against Swansea.

Floating Fox Posted 19 April 2013 Posted 19 April 2013 Would you really have died? Or would you have gone into administration and maybe dropped a league or two? I don't know enough about your financial perils but there's not many clubs at this level that die completely!
