An eye opener

Many years ago I knew a tramp, known locally as Harry. He used to sleep rough in a brick making kiln. The odd thing was he would never physically touch money, nor would he accept any offers of money. He despised people who tried to help him, in any way, and I can well remember walking up a lane one evening, and telling me that he was really happy in the life he led.

Sadly, he was found dead some days later, bless him, and I missed not seeing the old fellow. I will always remember him though. .

No doubt there are a few that are used and even prefer the life but sleeping out and maybe traveling town to town is a lot different to being moved from hostel to hostel, bad landlords traumatic experiences and the rest.

That tramp as you called him may have had a fear of being enclosed and if he didn't ask for anything then was doing no harm.

Can't have been easy in the winter.

Have to be careful what I say on here else i'll get banned again, but where are the eye-opening parts, Rince-o, if you don't mind me asking? I read the whole thing, nothing but common sense*.

*in my opinion - apologies if my opinion is incorrect - i'll just accept post deletion and a ban if this opinion is not on the allowed list

I could find more but do not want to spoil any-ones joy at the new baby..

Anyway a football forum is not really the place to post this stuff. FT members are intelligent enough to find these things out for themselves. No offense intended.

I was given a two page document covering the laws regarding anyone that is in danger of losing their home and their rights to a place over their head. It is a list of do's and don'ts withe the relevant housing act alongside so things are not so black and white.

Without seeing what can and cannot be done by all concerned it is difficult to judge and I include myself in that.

About time we had a mass cull to be honest.

What are the main reasons for homeless people failing to take up housing benefit and JSA and all the other freebies that would keep them off the street?

I've always wondered this. Homeless people can't claim housing benefits (on account of not having one) but they can claim JSA.

Should these be ignored as well?

As I said things are not black and white and the report goes a long way to clarifying some things.

Until a couple of years ago I had some of the same views of one or two others.

I've been shocked by some of the revelations I have found out.

Never thought some of the things went on in modern Britain.

One of our War Heroes had to sell his medals to afford heating in the winter.

If that happened, anything can. Very low point for the Country (again).

It is a shameful situation Ken .

We do seem to be moving back to the selfish days of Thatcher again .

Maybe we are all selfish all of the time , but more people seem to openly revel in it as some kind of virtue at certain times

ps keep up the good work

Yes but look on the bright side, there's another Royal baby.

They could easily get a place to live and get on housing benefit plus JSA if they really wanted to. A £12k per year salary is available to anyone in this country, whether you want to work for it or would prefer to receive it in handouts is up to you. But the offer is there, and while it is there, I find it hard to sympathize too much with those who can't even be bothered to take a handout and wind up on the street

Really ?

Yes.

How so ?

If you're saying that someone full time on minimum wage would gross around that amount ,  it's not the same thing as "A £12k per year salary is available to anyone in this country"

There's a lot of spin on that ball . :)

I'm fairly sure Ken ( and many others like him)wouldn't be out of work if that were the case

If you want to work you'll get at least that from minimum wage. If you don't want to work (or can't find a job) you'll get the equivalent in handouts. There is no reason for anybody to be homeless for financial reasons when such a charitable system already exists.

OK I suppose some people are just plain stupid and don't realise this.

Perhaps you can tell Ken and he can pass this message on to them  :D

Moose no offence but you really did not read and absorb any of that article did you?

I shall pass your solution onto all the organisations that have been working 24/7 on the problem. They will be so pleased that you have come up with all the answers

How are you on quantum physics there are are few equations some scientists need. Don't rush, anytime in the next week will do.

Yes I read it. Some people can't cope with life and struggle even to organise receiving free handouts. Further efforts are made to help these people but still some continue to evade the help offered. Help is layered upon help and still some people refuse to accept it. If they don't want to be helped then that's fine by me. They strike me as behaving like spoiled children, lapping up all the attention and sympathy they receive as if they're the only people in the world to have ever suffered a problem. The more you try to help, the further they run away. It's a game of cat and mouse. Solution: withdraw the help, let them feel the first throngs of starvation, and watch them all come running back to collect their housing benefit.
